Position Summary: The Director of Finance will collaboratively work with the leadership (staff and
elders) of the church to develop, implement and manage the church financial and processes by:
- Updating, adhering to and administrating the most up-to-date financial practices for churches, keeping in step with what is recommended by trusted church CPA’s, the policies set forth by the IRS and GAAP.
- Providing proper oversight to the budgeting and annual review processes for the church budget and employee annual reviews.
- Administrating the master database for the church.
Philosophy: The Director of Finance provides leadership in two major areas, organizational leadership and support leadership. The Director of Finance should look to empower others to support various aspects of the position/department.
Responsibilities:
- Process payroll including personnel and pay changes, deductions and benefits, time sheets, paid time off, overtime, gift checks, and W-2s.
- Maintain updated personnel records including payroll records, personnel files, salary administration, performance evaluations, verification of employment and housing allowances. Administer employee insurance benefits, pension plan, 403(b) plan and worker’s comp offered to new full-time employees and at enrollment periods. Make payments on the monthly insurance bills.
- Serve as church bookkeeper (prepare and process appropriate purchases and check requests; open and review bank statements and checks cleared, A/P checks, budget and process invoices, work with bank accounts, etc.)
- Collaboratively work with all staff and elders and serve as administrator (or at minimum “accountability”) for all vendor contracts.
- Develop an annual Finance departmental budget and manage spending to budget.
This is a part-time, non-exempt position.
