Job Description

Worship Pastor – First Baptist Church, Sikeston, MO

Are you ready to turn the tables upside down? Are you prepared to allow God to use you in ways you never thought were possible? Are you looking to grow, not just as a Worship Pastor, but as a leader in God’s church? Then perhaps this is where you belong.

Our Lead Pastor, Glen Cantrell, is needing a partner to do the work of the Lord. We are looking for someone who is committed to reach the lost, who wants to help elevate the people of the church, encouraging them in their own leadership roles. Our next Worship Pastor will help develop other musicians and singers who will assist in leading the congregation on Sunday mornings and other times of worship. Meanwhile, our next Worship Pastor will be using his other gifts for helping the church reach the lost in the Sikeston area, while caring and loving on the First Baptist congregation.

Our expectations are simple, yet, at times, difficult to maintain. We expect a mature Christian who can articulate his personal relationship with Jesus Christ and will show spiritual disciplines to grow that relationship. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate his calling to lead others to Christ.

We expect the worship pastor to have the ability to defend his faith, including the inerrancy and sufficiency of scripture, which will lead to sound doctrinal teaching. He must commit to the mission, the vision and the values of First Baptist Church, affirming, leading and teaching in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

The man God has intended for us will:

·      Participate in the general pastoral care of the congregation as a part of the ministerial staff, including home, hospital visits and other duties assigned.

·      Serve under the direction of our Lead Pastor.   Must attend weekly staff meetings, help coordinate a church calendar and assist with all church ministry as needed.

·      Must have strong vocal skills and the ability to play an instrument(s) is preferred.

·      Responsible to develop and lead an overall worship ministry that draws people into the presence of God through a powerful, uplifting and biblically sound worship experience, both individually and corporately.

·      Prepare and lead weekly worship service(s) and additional special services as needed (i.e., Easter, Christmas, etc.)

·      Identify, recruit, and develop members of the worship team.  Lead rehearsals of the worship team including choir, instrumentalists, soloists and ensembles.

·      Supervise the purchase, inventory and maintenance of the music library, musical instruments and equipment, and any other supplies for use in the music ministry.  Prepare an annual music ministry budget in cooperation with the Finance Committee.

He will:

·      Be independent and self-motivated, while being comfortable in a diverse team environment.

·      Can freely give and receive input while managing stressful situations with grace and good communication.

·      Be open to new ideas and adaptable to the everchanging needs of our current church and those we are trying to reach.

·      Proven ability to think strategically and generationally in the implementation of various worship models and styles.

·      Pursue opportunities to use music and worship as a vehicle for evangelism beyond our church walls.

·      A bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited institution or seminary in church music preferred.

·      Experience as a Music Pastor in a church, including leading worship, directing a choir and/or praise and worship team.
