First Methodist Church Johnson City is seeking a Senior Pastor to step into the role being vacated by the retirement of our current Senior Pastor after fourteen years of his service and ministry.

First Methodist Church Johnson City is seeking a dedicated Senior Pastor to lead the congregation in spiritual growth and service.

As the spiritual shepherd of the church family, the Senior Pastor will play a pivotal role in fostering a nurturing environment where individuals can deepen their faith, cultivate meaningful relationships, and contribute to the growth of the community.

The Senior Pastor will be responsible for the overall vision and implementation of ministry thus creating disciples who love and follow Christ.

Reports to:


Senior Pastor will report to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. The SPRC will provide an annual evaluation of the Pastor's performance and meet with representatives of the Committee throughout the year as needed. The Senior Pastor will operate with considerable independence within areas of responsibility described below.


Responsibilities:


• Provide dynamic and engaging preaching that inspires, challenges, and empowers individuals to live out their faith.

• Lead and oversee all aspects of worship services, including planning, organizing, and facilitating meaningful worship experiences.

• Provide pastoral care and support to congregation members, offering guidance, counsel, and prayer during times of joy, sorrow, and spiritual growth.

• Collaborate with church layleaders to develop and implement strategies for spiritual formation, discipleship, and outreach ministries that meet the diverse needs of the community.

• Demonstrate community engagement by building relationships within the community and represent the church in local events and initiatives.

• Administer programs/special events.

• Adhere to church bylaws.

• Supervises staff and church programs.

• Manages the church's budget and financial resources in accordance with its mission and goals.

• Manages church staff, overseeing church operations, and ensuring effective administration.

• A balance of creative/innovative thinking while being sensitive to the traditions in the church.

• Takes an active role in the community Ministerial Alliance.


Qualifications:


At least 2 years of pastoral experience and be an Ordained Minister. Candidate must be willing to adhere to the principles of the Wesleyan Tradition with a demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and the principles of the teaching from the Holy Bible.


• Demonstrate inspiring preaching and teaching skills.

• Demonstrate ability to manage day to day ministry tasks while keeping sight of the overall vision.

• Self-motivated, dependable and grace filled.

• Strong organizational and administrative skills.

• Proficient in IT skills.


Physical Requirements:


Mobility: Ability to move around the church facilities, including navigating stairs and assisting with various activities.

• Stamina: Capability to stand and deliver sermons for extended periods, as well as participate in church events and community outreach.

• Communication: Ability to speak clearly and audibly during services, meetings, and counseling sessions.

• Vision: Sufficient vision to read materials, conduct services, and interact with congregants effectively.

• Hearing: Adequate hearing to listen to congregational needs, participate in discussions, and respond to various situations.

• Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle church material, manage technology for services, and perform administrative tasks.


Compensation Package:

• Pastor Expense Reimbursement (travel expense, continuing education with SPRC approval, cell phone, etc.)

• Housing: This position will come with a spacious (approximately 1,800 sq.ft.) 3-bedroom 2 bath parsonage (fully renovated and all appliances provided) and an attached 2 car carport with storage. The Parsonage is located on the church premises and includes electricity, water/sewer/trash, Wi-Fi, lawn care and a privacy fenced backyard.
