Position Summary

  • The Lead Pastor of Zion Church of Kurten carries the profound responsibility of working with his fellow elders to guide the congregation toward spiritual growth, wisdom, moral clarity, and purpose. As the primary spiritual leader, this role demands leading by example with integrity, devotion, and conviction. The pastor must cultivate a biblically rooted community, where individuals connect deeply with Christ, take responsibility for their faith, and serve meaningfully. Encouraging small group Bible studies and community engagement ensures faith is lived, not just professed. Through servant leadership and pastoral care, the Lead Pastor will strengthen the church’s mission, fostering faith, resilience, and purpose in fulfilling the Great Commission.


Qualifications

  • Has a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. (MDIV or seminary training preferred.)
  • Has formal biblical or theological training.
  • Has a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a church leadership role.
  • Meets the qualifications of an elder as outlined in the Bible (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9).
  • Is in complete agreement with the constitution and by-laws of Zion Church of Kurten.
  • Is able to teach the Bible clearly, faithfully, and with conviction, remaining true to Scripture.
  • Has proven ability to foster trust and unity within the church family.
  • Has strong, healthy relationships with family.
  • Consistently lives out a Christ-like, disciple-making lifestyle.


Responsibilities


Leadership

  • Provide leadership and vision to the elder-led church, fostering collaboration.
  • Work with the elder team to shepherd and care for the congregation.
  • Equip and develop elders as leaders within the church.
  • Incorporate discipleship and leadership development into all ministries.
  • Collaborate with the elder team to clarify and set the church’s vision, priorities, and strategic direction.
  • Collaborate to create and implement a plan for church growth and impact.


Pastoral

  • Prepare and preach biblically sound and relevant sermons.
  • Lead special services (e.g., Easter, Christmas Eve).
  • Provide counseling, conduct funerals, hospital visits, and officiate marriages, baptisms, and new member services.
  • Oversee and delegate Bible study class leadership.
  • Guide adult and children’s disciple-making programs.


Worship

  • Develop purposeful worship services that draw people into God’s presence.
  • Deliver expositional sermons that teach the full counsel of Scripture.
  • Provide Christ-centered preaching that applies the gospel to transform lives.
  • Collaborate with the worship team to design and lead worship services that engage people of all ages.
  • Ensure preaching and teaching align with the mission of making disciples.


Ministry

  • Encourage sustainable ministry programs that utilize the congregation’s gifts.
  • Promote engagement in ministry opportunities within the church and community.


Management

  • Manage and develop church staff, fostering a positive environment.
  • Work with elders and church council to oversee church operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and facility care.


Community Relations

  • Be mission-minded, positioning Zion Church of Kurten as a hub for community engagement.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to address community needs.
  • Actively engage in school and local events.
  • Foster relationships focused on outreach and disciple-making.


Congregational Care

  • Foster a relational care model based on the "one another" passages in Scripture (John 13:34-35; Galatians 5:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:11).
  • Promote a culture of prayer and reliance on Christ.
  • Build intentional relationships within the church body.
  • Be a relational shepherd, practicing hospitality and investing in others’ spiritual well-being.


Other Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day church operations.
  • Provide shepherding and congregational care through visitation, calls, and notes.
  • Officiate weddings, funerals, baptisms, and communion.
  • Offer biblical counsel to those in need.
  • Serve on committees as needed.
  • Work with the elder chairman to develop meeting agendas.
  • Monitor ministry progress and support ministry leaders.
  • Promote a strong focus on local and global mission work.
  • Delegate responsibilities to qualified members.
  • Take on other tasks as assigned by the elders.
