Position Title/Time: Full-time (Salaried) Director of Youth Ministries

Accountable to:  God, Congregation, Church Council, Staff Relationship Team and Youth Commission

Report to: Lead Pastor

The job:

Evangelical Covenant Church of New London is seeking a full time Youth Director to shepherd and lead a thriving, youth ministry of around 40 students, grades 6-12. We are looking for someone who is passionate about following Christ and is faithful to the mission of developing and cultivating spiritual growth in the next generation. This looks like both cultivating relationships with students and intentionally creating opportunities for spiritual growth. Must be able to work independently while also communicating with and leading a team of invested volunteer leaders to further the mission of NLECC. Qualifications:

  1. Has a genuine love and passion for Christ, having accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior.
  2. Biblical knowledge and acceptance of the Bible as the authority of God’s authoritative Word.
  3. A self-starter who is able to: plan, organize and supervise ministry.
  4. Ability to understand and relate well with youth within the congregation and community.
  5. Passionate about seeing kids come to know Christ and encouraging their spiritual growth.
  6. Ability to communicate and teach biblical principles.
  7. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in youth ministry or related field (preferred).

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Establish and maintain an active devotional life with accountability in prayer partnerships, mentors or small groups for continued spiritual growth.
  2. Lead in developing, planning and coordinating the youth ministry conducting weekly gatherings and special events. (i.e. youth group, summer trips, outreach events, service projects, engaging activities, etc.)
  3. Recruit, train/equip, motivate and support a team of adult and student leaders and mentors to serve in the youth ministry with bi-annual instructional training.
  4. Build relationships among the students within the church as well as outreach to students in the community and schools, providing support and leadership.
  5. Establish and implement yearly focus and goals for ministry.
  6. Work with the Youth Commission to establish monthly calendar of events and annual budget.
  7. Encourage participation by all youth in the various ministries of the church.
  8. Affirm the home and family, maintaining consistent communication with parents of junior high (6th - 8th grade) and senior high (9th - 12th) students.
  9. Effectively communicate (i.e. newsletter, bulletin, social media, etc.) ministry plans with congregation, parents and students along with the youth leaders.
  10. Perform related work as apparent or assigned.
  11. Connect with local area Youth Pastors and engage with denominational youth ministry network.

Other Expectations:

  1. Assist Lead Pastor & Youth Commission with Confirmation program.
  2. Attend the following meetings: Regular staff meeting, youth commission meetings, congregational meetings, as well as Northwest Conference Youth Connection meetings as available and annual staff and occasional staff/council retreats.
  3. Write an annual ministry report and monthly reports to the council.
  4. Be supportive of the spirit and ministries of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
  5. Keep Lead Pastor informed of important developments, potential problems, and related information necessary for effective church ministry. Coordinate/communicate ministry plans and activities with other staff, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.

Training:

  1. Willing to become credentialed in the Covenant if applicable.
  2. Willing to participate in the Covenant External Orientation Program if applicable.
  3. Willing to fulfill the annual Evangelical Covenant Ministerial continuing education requirements.

Shall be given by either party for termination of this working agreement at least six (6) weeks in advance.
