Summary:
Hope Church is a Gospel centered church in Minneapolis whose mission is to Love God, Love People, and Make Disciples of Christ. We are a multi-generational church, committed to discipleship, and are seeking an individual to fill the Youth Director position.
The youth director will oversee Ignite Youth, which is a youth gathering of 6th-12th graders, that meets on Wednesdays, Sundays, and various other special events and retreats. The youth director has a passion for reaching 6th-12th graders through building relationships, fostering community, encouraging them to grow as disciples of Jesus, while encouraging and supporting parents to be the primary disciple makers of their families.
Essential Responsibilities:
Discipleship and Support of Youth:
- Organize, plan, and lead - Wednesday night youth ministry service, generally 6:30-8:30pm and Sunday morning, 9:15-10:15am.
- Study and present a weekly message in effective and engaging ways to students.
- Mentoring and connecting with youth on a regular basis.
- Develop and maintain student leadership programs for older teens in the youth group.
- Plan youth activities with focus on serving, outreach, fellowship, and building community.
- Plan and oversee youth mission trips.
- Communicate with parents and partner with them in the spiritual needs of their kids.
- Find effective and engaging ways to connect with youth who are not a part of the church (i.e. reaching out to schools, community programs, etc.)
- Oversee and plan all youth retreats and events.
Leadership:
- Train, equip, and support youth leaders.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Attend church leadership meetings as directed.
Administration/Other Duties:
- Maintain youth page of church website.
- Oversee youth social media accounts and provide opportunities for connection through social media.
- Coordinate fund raisers, including soliciting parents and youth volunteers to assist.
- Be present on Sunday mornings.
- Support Senior Pastor as needed with Sunday speaking, communion, funerals/baptisms.
Essential Requirements:
- A mature, growing disciple of Jesus who is committed to participate in the life of Hope Lutheran Church.
- Acceptance and agreement of Hope's Statement of Faith.
- Passionate about evangelism and an enthusiasm for helping students grow as disciples.
- Familiar with current trends related to youth, parents, and families.
- Adaptiveness in using social media to connect and reach students.
- A willingness to connect with students of various backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests. A team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to recruit, equip and direct volunteers.
- Self-motivated, organized, with strong communication skills.
- A teachable spirit and willingness to learn best methods and practices to reach youth.
- Flexible working hours will include Sundays, evenings, and Holidays.
Preferred Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree in Christian Youth Work or a related area is preferred.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience in a Christian Youth Program is preferred.
