CHURCH ADMINISTRATOR-SECRETARY
First United Methodist Church of Bossier City, Louisiana
FUMC Bossier is currently seeking a Church Administrator-Secretary to support the Senior Pastor in fulfilling the overall goals and ministries of the church particularly that of leading others into abundant life in Christ by performing the duties of the position.
The primary function of the CAS is to provide for the administrative needs of the church and to support the pastoral staff and leadership team for effective ministry. This is accomplished through communication with and under direct supervision of the Pastor and indirectly, Leadership Council. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the direction of the Pastor, the Leadership Council, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Time off, related to vacation, illness, or other absences, is to be negotiated with the Pastor, in accordance with the policy adopted by the Leadership Council. This is a fulltime non-exempt position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. All applicants will be considered based on their qualifications and ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Following is a list of job requirements for candidate to be considered for position.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Business or Equivalent with a BA/BS degree preferred. Minimum five years’ experience required, greater than preferred.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize requests, assist and/or manage needs of multiple staff and projects.
- Demonstrate to others the ability to be a team builder and possess a collaborative team player attitude.
- May provide team/staff oversight.
- Possess excellent administrative skills.
- Possess a basic working knowledge of human resources.
- Possess background in clerical and receptionist duties. Must be conscientious and reliable as well as possessing a pleasant personality and telephone voice.
- Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in all dealings while exhibiting a strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ evidenced by a compassionate and empathetic demeanor, a commitment to the church.
- Strong integrity and commitment to ethical conduct and personal work ethic.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, members, vendors, etc. using proper grammar without dialect or slang representative of the church.
- Ability to be accessible yet wise in appropriate boundary setting.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, completing all tasks promptly and accurately.
- Ability to deal with problems in a positive manner while finding effective solutions.
- Must be computer proficient with experience in Microsoft products and with the ability to learn church related programs.
- Punctuality and dependability are critical.
- Directly support the Pastor as needed.
- Works with leadership and staff to provide timely and accurate communication with the congregation.
- Attend monthly Leadership Council meetings as well as regular staff meetings.
- Must keep office open during regular business hours and coordinate coverage when unavailable.
- Greet individuals in a courteous and professional manner whether in person or by telephone while providing a welcoming and warm setting in the church office.
- Answer multi-line telephone console as needed in a timely, customer-service manner.
- May welcome on-site visitors, determine the nature of their visit and direct them accordingly.
- Answer questions about the church, providing callers with directions and other information without violating the confidentiality of others.
- Meet needs of people of FUMC family (listen, offer assistance, refer them to Pastor or other appropriate staff or ministries.
- May coordinate an office volunteer team to assist with the above listed tasks and may work with various Volunteer teams or committees as needed.
- This position relates closely with the Treasurer, Facilities team, accounting, and department leaders (e.g. Children’s Director, Youth Director, Web-Media Ministry, Volunteer teams and small groups).
- Maintain accurate member records and statistics (including worship attendance) for tracking and for reporting a portion of the annual audit. As well as life changes of members.
