Position Title: Director of Children's Ministries
Reports To: Pastor / Head of Staff
FLSA Status: 30 hours/week, Exempt

The Director of Children's Ministries will embody this mission by creating a vibrant, Christcentered environment where children are nurtured in the faith, families are supported, and the church extends its reach to new children and parents in the community.
Position Summary
The Director of Children's Ministries is responsible for the development, oversight, and execution of all ministry activities for children (birth through 5th grade) and their families. This individual will lead ·efforts to disciple children in the faith, equip parents, and build relationships with families inside and outside the church. The ideal candidate will have a passionate and growing faith in Jesus Christ, a heart for ministry to and with children and families, and a desire to make disciples through creative, relational, and organized leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Children's Programming (Sunday Mornings)
• Recruit and Train Teachers for Sunday School
• Maintain and Order Curriculum (currently using Spark)
• Organize Classroom Use: Determine number of rooms needed, setup/clean-up materials and snacks
• Oversee Check-in and Pick-up Area: Ensure safety, cleanliness, and welcoming environment
• Track and Report Attendance
• Coordinate Scheduling Tools (e.g., REALM, Google Docs or SignUpGenius)
• Annual Vacation Bible School
2. Worship Integration
• Lead the "Word for Children" (brief Children's Message) during Sunday worship
• Recruit and Schedule Worship Service Acolytes using SignUpGenius
• Prepare and maintain Children's Worship Bags
• Support the Children's Choir in coordination with the Director of Worship/Music
3. Preschool Partnership
• Lead Weekly Chapel Services for Moorings Presbyterian Preschool in coordination with the Preschool Director
• Assist with Special Events in collaboration with the Preschool Director
4. Communication
• Communicate clearly and consistently through:
o Weekly/monthly emails, texts, and phone calls with families
o Social Media posts to promote events and engage new families
o Collaborate with the church office to share announcements via bulletins, newsletters, and periodic verbal announcements
5. Nursery Oversight
• Supervise Nursery Workers: Schedule, train, and provide spiritual encouragement and support
• Ensure safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers
6. Staff and Ministry Team Participation
• Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings and Children's Ministry Team meetings
• Collaborate with Youth Director, Preschool Director, and Pastoral staff
7. Family Ministry Events
Plan and execute periodic family-focused events that foster fellowship, outreach, and spiritual formation ("On-Ramps"):
• Back to School Blessings
• Youth Family Kickoff
• Fall Festival
• Trolley Sing (Christmas Event)
Qualifications
• A deep, vibrant, and passionate personal faith in Jesus Christ and a love for people
• A clear sense of calling to children's and family ministry
• Strong leadership, administrative, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to recruit, train, and support volunteers and/or teachers
• Experience in children's ministry or early childhood education required
• Comfortable using technology tools such as Google Docs, SignUpGenius, and social media
• Strong communicator (written and verbal)
• Committed to the mission and theological convictions of the Presbyterian Church
