Job Description
Minister to Children and Families
Principal Function: The Minister to Children and Families is responsible to the Lord through the authority of the church and under the leadership of the Senior Pastor and Family Equipping Pastor for leading, developing, promoting and implementing a comprehensive design of discipleship for children (birth – Grade 5).
Working Relationships: Non-voting member of the Church Council; strategist and resource person for leadership and implementation of Preschool and Elementary Bible Fellowship Groups, mid-week programming, discipleship development, camps, fellowship activities and Vacation Bible School. Collaborate with other staff members in the development of overall ministry area programming and calendar requests.
Qualifications: A born-again believer in Jesus Christ, able to articulate a calling to this area of ministry, a degree from a Southern Baptist Seminary (preferred) and/or adequate ministry experience, and a demonstration of appropriate theological, doctrinal, proven leadership and administrative skills to adequately fulfill the requirements of Minister to Children and Families.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the Family Equipping Pastor and the Family Ministry Team in the development of a comprehensive and coordinated discipleship strategy for children, birth-Grade 5, which complements the strategy for Family Discipleship and dovetails with the beginning of the discipleship plan for Students.
2. Lead and supervise part-time associates who will assist with the ministry.
3. Develop, articulate, and implement a vision for Children’s Ministry which coordinates and enhances the overall mission and vision of First Baptist Madison.
4. Provide creative and engaging leadership for volunteer leadership teams. Develop and implement a plan for volunteer enlistment and training for on-going programs, camps, and special events and activities.
5. Select age-appropriate curriculum for Children’s Bible Fellowship Groups, mid-week programming, special studies, and Vacation Bible School.
6. Work with the Family Equipping Pastor in the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan for equipping and resourcing parents to be the primary source of discipleship for their children, helping them navigate the partnership between the home and church.
7. Minister to children and their families during crises as well as celebrations of life’s journeys and spiritual growth.
8.Work with the Communications Team for the development of all logos, promotional material, videos, and announcements to ensure a consistent look and feel for all church materials.
9. Coordinate with staff and program leaders and advise as to the needs of children in planning and scheduling of all church activities.
10. Coordinate childcare for birth-Grade 5 as needed or requested for all church calendared events.
11. Supervise the Kid’s@First Children’s Center Director, coordinating use of space, promotion of church activities for children, and outreach to families as needed. This responsibility also includes assisting the Director as needed in trouble-shooting any potential problem areas in order to maintain a healthy, loving environment for the children under our care. Work with the Director and the Executive Pastor in the development of an annual budget for the Center.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Family Equipping Pastor, Executive Pastor or Senior Pastor.
