Position Summary
The Assistant Kids Director serves as a key support role within Journey Church’s Kids Ministry, providing both high-level administrative support and hands-on ministry leadership. This individual helps ensure the Kids Ministry operates with excellence, organization, and alignment with the vision and values of Journey Church.
This role is highly execution-focused—supporting the Kids Pastor in planning, coordination, communication, and systems at all three Journey Campuses—while also actively engaging in weekend services and ministry environments to help create a safe, engaging, and spiritually impactful experience for children and families.
Core Responsibilities
1. Administrative & Operational Support (Primary Focus)
- Provide direct administrative support to the Kids Pastor
- Manage calendars, scheduling, and ministry timelines
- Coordinate volunteers across all Kids Ministry environments
- Maintain and update Planning Center (equivalent systems)
- Oversee check-in systems, rosters, and classroom assignments
- Assist in budgeting, purchasing, and expense tracking
- Prepare materials for services, events, and curriculum distribution
- Ensure classrooms and environments are organized, stocked, and ready
- Track attendance, volunteer data, and key ministry metrics
2. Volunteer Coordination & Development
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and scheduling volunteers
- Communicate regularly with team members
- Ensure volunteers are background-checked and trained
- Support volunteer appreciation and retention efforts
- Maintain clear team structures and role assignments
3. Weekend Ministry Execution
- Serve in active ministry roles during weekend services
- Float between environments to troubleshoot and support leaders
- Step into classrooms or leadership roles as needed
- Maintain safety, security, and cleanliness standards
- Ensure a positive, engaging experience for kids and families
4. Events & Programming Support
- Assist in planning and executing Kids Ministry events
- Support logistics for special services and events
- Coordinate supplies, registration, and volunteer assignments
- Ensure smooth execution from planning through follow-up
5. Communication & Family Engagement
- Assist with communication to parents
- Help manage follow-up with new families
- Support systems that keep families engaged
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with children and/or ministry preferred
- Familiarity with Planning Center is a plus
- Alignment with Journey Church’s mission and values
Work Schedule Expectations
- Sunday services required
- Midweek office hours, Monday through Thursday as assigned
- Additional hours for events and special programming

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $40,000 – $45,000 annually, commensurate with experience
