Creative Arts Director

Good Shepherd Church

Job Description

CREATIVE ARTS DIRECTOR

Good Shepherd Church has spent significant time cultivating a vibrant atmosphere of Holy Spirit centered worship, one that is mindful of multiple generations worshiping together and the unique building in which we worship. Good Shepherd is a historically Lutheran congregation that is Holy Spirit filled and centered on Jesus Christ. We are praying for a Creative Arts Director who will continue this focus with excellence and intentionality.

Good Shepherd strives for worship that both welcomes and eagerly anticipates a powerful move of the Holy Spirit. We seek maximum congregational participation rather than presentational or performance-oriented approaches. With these goals in mind, the Creative Arts Director is first responsible for planning and producing up to three weekly worship services which feature diverse musical style and content, as well as special events, holiday services, and memorial services.

Additionally, the Creative Arts Director is responsible for:

  • Leading Good Shepherd’s technical team which provides sound, lighting, and video reinforcement campuswide, and for audio/visual productions
  • Continuing the growth of a creative culture within Good Shepherd
  • Managing “GS Studios”, our in-house audio and visual recording facilities. This includes overseeing staff, ensuring that studio bookings align with GS values, and leading in a way that empowers staff, sound engineers, and videographers to view this as a ministry
  • Managing “Haven Gallery”, our in-house, retreat oriented, art space. This includes overseeing the displays, cultivating the artistic environment, and clear integration with GS Church creatives

This is a full-time salary position, paying between $80,000 and $100,000 based on experience, with benefit allowance in accordance with Good Shepherd employment policy. This role reports to the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor. Position requires participation in regular planning meetings with pastoral staff and weekly rehearsal with musicians and technicians.

Skill Requirements:

  • A mentor and spiritual leader to creatives, coaching them and praying for them to become more effective and mature disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Worship leader who responds appropriately to the move of the Holy Spirit
  • Worship planner who clearly structures worship services that allow for the movement of the Holy Spirit
  • Knowledge of current worship songs and hymns, and liturgies
  • Ability to conduct and lead diverse musical ensembles in rehearsal and performance
  • Keyboardist, guitarist, and/or lead vocalist who reads, and arranges music tailored to the talents and capabilities of the available musicians
  • Technologist who employs common production tools (i.e. MIDI, Planning Center, MS Office, Finale, Proclaim, LogicPro, ProTools, DaVinci Resolve, in-ear monitors, click tracks, and pre-recorded tracks)
  • Producer of audio and video content
  • Networker skilled at connecting and developing relationships both inside and outside of GS Church

Responsibilities:

  • Practice spiritual leadership for all creatives, including musical and technical personnel
  • Produce weekly, holiday and special worship events and concerts, in addition to audio and/or audio/visual products. Prepare detailed production plans, assemble media required for production, schedule and coordinate creative resources, and support equipment setup for services and events, as required
  • Schedule, lead, and develop worship ensembles, recruit and audition staff and volunteers, conduct weekly rehearsals, and provide ongoing training and regular evaluation
  • Communicate schedules, plans, expectations, and arrangements to all necessary parties in a timely manner
  • Oversee a technology team of audio engineers, visual operators, media and lighting technicians
  • Provide financial management for worship, audio/video productions, and creative community initiatives, including managing ministry budgets for hiring ensembles, directors, musicians, technicians, acquisition of music resources, equipment, software and licenses
  • Oversee maintenance and care of worship ministry assets, including musical instruments, sound equipment, music library, and production technology
  • Set annual goals and evaluate attainment
  • Direct and manage the budgets, including annual forecasting, approving payroll and timecards and documenting credit card expenditures in a professional manner

Education Requirements:
