The Company

Finch is currently seeking a full-time payroll senior position. We are a growing organization and are looking for experienced talent to help continue our expansion.

Payroll management is a large part of this job and we primarily use Quickbooks Online Payroll alongside Quickbooks Time. A majority of our clients are churches across the country, which brings compliance nuances (clergy tax treatment, housing allowances, multi-state considerations) that a senior is expected to navigate confidently.

The Job

A Senior Payroll specialist (Senior Payrollogist) is primarily responsible for reviewing the payroll work prepared by our associates, ensuring it is accurate and compliant before it reaches the client, and serving as the escalation point for our more complex client situations. Where an associate learns and executes the systems, a senior is expected to have mastered them—catching what others miss, resolving the exceptions, and coaching associates toward independence. This role reports to a Payroll Manager and works closely with the associate team.

Our clients' needs and requests vary widely, so strong judgment, critical thinking, and problem solving are essential to success in this role.

Key Job Duties

• Reviewing associate-prepared payroll for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to processing.
• Serving as the escalation point for complex client situations and non-routine payroll scenarios.
• Handling advanced payroll and compliance matters, including clergy dual tax status, housing allowance designation, multi-state tax setup, and employer benefit configurations (retirement, company-paid insurance, HSAs, etc.).
• Ensuring clients' paychecks and payroll tax filings are accurate and timely across the accounts you oversee.
• Communicating timely and effectively via email with clients on higher-complexity or escalated matters, with an emphasis on customer service.
• Coaching and mentoring associates, sharing feedback on their work, and helping raise the overall quality of the team's output.
• Identifying recurring issues or process gaps and raising them to the Payroll Manager, along with proposed solutions.
• Responding to all emails within a 24-hour period.
• Time tracking and management (totaling 8 hours of work each day for a full-time employee).

Education:

Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

Payroll: 3-5 years (Preferred)

Payroll review or QC: 1 year minimum (Preferred)

Because of our rapid growth we are looking for an individual that could help us with all the new church clients we have been signing up. Daily bookkeeping is a large part of this job and we use Quickbooks. Several of our clients are Christian churches across the country.
