Minister of Youth
Reynoldsburg Community Church
Reynoldsburg Community Church is seeking a passionate, relational, creative, and spiritually grounded Minister of Youth to lead a growing ministry for students in 6th through 12th grade. This person will build meaningful relationships with students, equip servant leaders, and create a ministry where young people encounter Jesus, grow in faith, discover their gifts, and find a place to belong.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with teenagers, understand the unique opportunities and challenges of adolescence, and have a heart for reaching students both inside and outside the church.
Position Summary
The Minister of Youth provides leadership and pastoral oversight for RCC’s ministry to 6th–8th grade and 9th–12th grade students. This full-time position will develop engaging ministry experiences, recruit and care for servant leaders, encourage spiritual growth, and build connections among students, families, the church, and the Reynoldsburg community.
The Minister of Youth works closely with the Minister of Next Generations to develop a healthy, growing ministry that helps students take meaningful steps toward becoming lifelong followers of Jesus.
Reporting Relationships
· Reports to the Minister of Next Generations.
· Provides leadership, training, support, and care for youth ministry servant leaders.
· Collaborates with church staff, students, parents, the congregation, and community partners.
Ministry Purpose
The Minister of Youth will create a ministry in alignment with RCC’s mission: to love God and people, multiply the faith, and change the world. This role is helping preteens and teenagers develop authentic relationships, growing in their relationship with Jesus, discovering who God has created them to be, and using their gifts to serve others.
The role will also strengthen RCC’s connection with the Reynoldsburg community so students and families who are not currently connected to a church feel welcomed, valued, and invited into meaningful community.
Essential Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership and Discipleship
· Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can build relationships, ask questions, grow in faith, and follow Jesus.
· Provide age-appropriate teaching, worship, small groups, prayer, service, and discipleship opportunities.
· Develop ministry rhythms that address the distinct needs of middle school and high school students.
· Help students discover their gifts and calling and provide opportunities to serve and lead.
· Partner with parents and caregivers in the spiritual development of their teenagers.
Program Development and Administration
· Develop and lead a consistent calendar of youth gatherings, small groups, retreats, mission experiences, service projects, social events, and special programs.
· Create experiences that are fun, relevant, relational, and meaningful to today’s teenagers.
· Provide appropriate programming for both 6th–8th grade and 9th–12th grade students.
· Collaborate with the Next Gen team for family events, and work together effectively as a team.
· Create opportunities for students to invite friends and connect with young people who are not currently involved in a church.
· Regularly evaluate ministry programs and events for effectiveness and engagement.
· Seek and welcome student feedback and incorporate their ideas, needs, and perspectives when making ministry decisions.
Safety, Policies, and Compliance
· Maintain Safe Sanctuary policies that reflect best practices and protect children in RCC’s care.
· Ensure appropriate screening, training, supervision, and accountability for staff and servant leaders.
· Administer personnel policies according to the church handbook and implement direction from church leadership Next Gen Minister, and the Church Board.
Leadership, Supervision, and Volunteer Development
· Recruit, train, equip, schedule, encourage, and care for adult servant leaders.
· Establish clear expectations, healthy boundaries, and appropriate ministry practices.
· Provide ongoing coaching and support to help leaders serve effectively and remain spiritually and relationally healthy.
· Identify and develop student leaders through meaningful opportunities to serve and take ownership.
· Work with the Minister of Next Generations to develop strategies for ministry growth, increased participation, deeper student engagement, and a cohesive approach to spiritual development throughout every stage of life.
Communication, Parent Partnership, and Congregational Engagement
· Build trusting relationships with parents and provide clear, timely communication about youth ministry opportunities and student needs.
· Encourage parents to be active partners in their teenager’s spiritual development.
· Help the RCC congregation invest in students through mentoring, serving, prayer, and relationship building.
· Build relationships with schools, community organizations, families, and other groups serving middle and high school students.
· Develop outreach opportunities that connect RCC with students and families throughout Reynoldsburg.
· Work with the Minister of Next Generations to develop strategies for ministry growth, increased participation, and deeper student engagement.
Budget and Stewardship
· Develop, manage, and steward the Youth Ministry budget with the Minister of Next Generations and church leadership.
· Monitor spending, track expenses, and ensure cost-control measures are achieved.
Key Performance Expectations
· Students are growing in their relationship with Jesus and developing meaningful relationships with trusted adults and peers.
· Both age groups—6th–8th and 9th–12th—have clear purpose and consistent opportunities for connection, discipleship, and growth.
· Youth Ministry events effectively engage current students and create opportunities to reach new students.
· A healthy team of servant leaders is recruited, trained, supported, and developed.
· Students are increasingly equipped to serve, lead, and take ownership of their faith.
· Parents and caregivers experience strong communication and see RCC as a partner in their teenager’s spiritual development.
· RCC develops stronger relationships with students, families, schools, and community organizations throughout Reynoldsburg.
· Youth Ministry demonstrates growth in participation, discipleship, leadership, and outreach.
· Budgets, cost-control measures, and Church Board directives are met in a timely and effective manner.
· Attends weekly Next Generation collaboration meetings.
Qualifications
· Loves God with all heart, soul, and mind and has a genuine passion for teenagers and helping them discover and follow Jesus.
· Continually prioritizes and cultivates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
· Degree in Youth Ministry, Christian Ministry, Theology, Education, or a related field preferred.
· Three to five years of experience working with middle and/or high school students in a church, educational, nonprofit, or related setting preferred.
· Understands the developmental, social, emotional, and spiritual characteristics of adolescents.
· Strong relational skills with the ability to connect naturally with teenagers while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
· Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, motivate, and care for adult volunteers.
· Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
· Creative and adaptable, with an ability to develop programs and events that connect with contemporary teenagers.
· Comfortable engaging with parents, church members, community leaders, schools, and community partners.
· Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative church staff.
· Brings energy, passion, and enthusiasm to teamwork and youth ministry.
· Contemporary computer skills and CPR certification required, or ability to obtain CPR certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
