Job Description

Hulen Street Church | Fort Worth, Texas

About Hulen Street Church

At Hulen Street Church, our mission is simple:

Inviting the people in our circles to find their place in our family and their part in God's story.

We want to be a Jesus-centered, others-focused, outward-facing church that is irresistible to the unchurched, indispensable to the churched, and a blessing to our city.

We believe the local church should be a place where people who have followed Jesus for years can continue to grow and where people who aren't sure what they believe, or whether church is even for them, can feel genuinely welcomed.

Our ministry is shaped by five core values:

  • Biblical Centrality: God's Word is central to everything we teach and do.
  • Surprising Hospitality: We go out of our way to make people feel welcome and wanted.
  • Disarming Humility: We lead with humility, authenticity, and a willingness to learn.
  • Inspiring Simplicity: We work to make faith accessible and the next step clear.
  • Lost People Matter: We intentionally prioritize reaching people who don't yet know Jesus.

These aren't simply values we put on a wall. They shape how we make decisions, develop leaders, design ministry environments, and engage our community.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Student Pastor who shares our passion for reaching people who aren't already connected to church and helping those who are become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

We believe student ministry is more challenging—and more essential—than ever. Students are growing up in a rapidly changing culture, navigating complex questions about identity, relationships, purpose, and faith. We believe the local church has an extraordinary opportunity to make a lasting difference in their lives.

Our desire is to build a student ministry that doesn't simply serve the students who already attend Hulen Street, but intentionally reaches students throughout our community who may have little or no connection to church.

We want to create a ministry where students can belong before they believe, ask honest questions, develop meaningful relationships, encounter the gospel, and discover what it means to follow Jesus.

We're looking for someone who can help us build that kind of ministry.

What You'll Do

1. Build an Outward-Facing Student Ministry

  • Develop and implement a strategy for reaching middle and high school students who are not currently connected to a local church.
  • Create welcoming, engaging environments where students from different backgrounds can feel comfortable, make friends, and explore faith.
  • Develop relationships with students, families, schools, and community organizations to extend the reach of our ministry beyond the church campus.
  • Equip students and adult leaders to invite others and develop relationships with people outside their existing circles.
  • Regularly evaluate ministry programs and practices through the eyes of a student who has never attended church.

We don't want to measure success simply by how many students attend our programs, but also by how effectively we're reaching students who aren't already here.

2. Help Students Find Their Part in God's Story

  • Communicate biblical truth in ways that are faithful to Scripture, relevant to students' lives, and understandable to those with little church background.
  • Help students understand the gospel and develop a personal, growing relationship with Jesus.
  • Create intentional opportunities for students to grow spiritually through relationships, small groups, mentoring, serving, and leadership development.
  • Equip students to live out their faith at school, at home, and among their friends.
  • Help students understand that following Jesus isn't simply about what they receive from the church, but how God can work through them to make a difference in the lives of others.

3. Recruit, Develop, and Empower Volunteer Leaders

  • Build a healthy, enthusiastic team of adult volunteers who genuinely love students and share our ministry philosophy.
  • Recruit and equip leaders who demonstrate our core values and understand the importance of reaching students outside the church.
  • Provide ongoing training, encouragement, coaching, and accountability.
  • Create a culture where volunteers are trusted, equipped, appreciated, and empowered to make a meaningful difference.
  • Develop student leaders who take ownership of the ministry and help others find their place.

4. Partner with Parents and Families

  • Build meaningful relationships with parents, earning their trust and communicating regularly.
  • Provide resources and encouragement that equip parents to disciple their students.
  • Recognize that families come from different backgrounds and circumstances, and develop ways to support them.
  • Help students and their families build connections within the larger Hulen Street family.

5. Contribute to the Hulen Street Team

At Hulen Street, we refer to our staff as a team because we believe ministry is most effective when we're working together toward a shared mission.

  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor and other staff to advance the overall mission and vision of Hulen Street.
  • Ensure student ministry reflects the same values, culture, and ministry philosophy that guide the rest of the church.
  • Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, and churchwide initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a team-first attitude, a willingness to receive feedback, and a commitment to organizational alignment.
  • Help create connections between student ministry and the broader life of the church.

6. Provide Pastoral and Organizational Leadership

  • Provide pastoral care, encouragement, and spiritual guidance to students and families.
  • Plan and lead effective weekly gatherings, events, retreats, camps, and other ministry opportunities.
  • Establish appropriate systems for volunteer screening, student safety, communication, and ministry accountability.
  • Manage ministry resources and budgets responsibly.
  • Establish meaningful goals and regularly evaluate the health and effectiveness of the ministry.

Who We're Looking For

We're less interested in finding someone who knows how to maintain an existing student ministry model than someone who is excited about building an effective ministry for the next generation.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Loves Jesus and loves students. Demonstrates a growing relationship with Christ, personal integrity, and a genuine passion for helping students know and follow Jesus.
  • Has a heart for people outside the church. Is motivated to reach students who may never walk through our doors without someone intentionally building a relationship with them.
  • Thinks relationally, not just programmatically. Understands that events and programs are tools, but relationships are essential to effective ministry.
  • Communicates with clarity and relevance. Can teach Scripture faithfully while connecting with students who have varying levels of biblical knowledge and spiritual maturity.
  • Builds and develops teams. Knows how to recruit, equip, encourage, and empower volunteers rather than trying to do everything personally.
  • Is a collaborative team player. Believes in the importance of organizational alignment, shared leadership, and working toward common goals.
  • Is humble and teachable. Welcomes feedback, is willing to learn from others, and doesn't assume that the way ministry has always been done is necessarily the best way to do it going forward.
  • Is a strategic thinker and capable leader. Can translate vision into practical plans, develop systems, and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Embraces our mission and values. Is genuinely excited about helping Hulen Street become increasingly irresistible to the unchurched, indispensable to the churched, and a blessing to our city.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated commitment to Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with biblical standards for Christian leadership.
  • Agreement with the doctrine, mission, vision, and core values of Hulen Street Church.
  • Experience leading, teaching, or serving in student ministry, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and develop leaders.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Theological education or ministry training is preferred, though relevant ministry experience and demonstrated leadership ability will also be considered.
  • A commitment to appropriate safeguarding practices and the ability to satisfy the church's background screening requirements.

What Success Looks Like

We believe a healthy student ministry is about more than attendance numbers or successful events.

We want to see a ministry where:

  • Students who aren't connected to church are being reached and welcomed.
  • Students are coming to know Jesus and growing in their faith.
  • Students are inviting friends and discovering their part in God's story.
  • Volunteers are thriving, developing, and taking ownership of the ministry.
  • Parents feel supported and connected.
  • Student ministry is an integrated, contributing part of the larger Hulen Street family.

Ultimately, we're looking for someone who doesn't simply want to lead a student ministry, but wants to help us reach and disciple a generation of students who might otherwise never experience the difference Jesus can make in their lives.

Interested in Joining Our Team?

If you're passionate about reaching the next generation, excited about building an outward-facing student ministry, and believe you would thrive in the culture of Hulen Street Church, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit your resume along with a brief introduction explaining your philosophy of student ministry and why you believe Hulen Street might be a good fit.
