College Counselor

Position Overview:

Mullen High School is seeking to hire an energetic, detail-oriented person to work in our College Counseling office. Mullen High School is a private, Catholic, Lasallian, college preparatory school in Denver, educating young men and women in grades 9-12. The College Counselor works with administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, and college representatives to assist in meeting the goals and mission of Mullen High School. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the College Counselor will promote student success, providing for and responding to identified student needs, and supporting a comprehensive College Counseling program. This is an eleven-month calendar role that will join a team with two other college counseling professionals.

This is a full- time, at- will, position for the 2026-2027 school year.

Salary Range: $54,009- $71,072

Mullen reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range

Essential Job Functions:

Catholic and Lasallian Identity

• Maintain confidentiality of all student records and information in accordance with current federal privacy regulations and Mullen standards of ethics

Other essential duties

• Advising students regarding all aspects of college admissions: the college search, college application process, standardized testing strategy, scholarship search, athletic recruitment, and financial aid
• Conducting individual and group college counseling meetings with students and families, overseeing a caseload of approximately 70-80 students in both eleventh and twelfth grades
• Responding effectively to the needs of a diverse population with a variety of post-secondary aspirations
• Interest in growing as an advisor and leader amongst a collaborative and ethical team
• Writing letters of recommendation for colleges, summer programs, and scholarships
• Remaining current with knowledge of colleges and their academic programs, admission policies and procedures, enrollment trends, and financial aid/scholarship policies and procedures
• Assisting in developing, maintaining, and delivering a comprehensive college counseling curriculum through varying programs and presentations throughout the year; continually review programming to maximize effectiveness and relevance to trends in higher education
• Collecting and analyzing data in Scoir to guide college curriculum direction and emphasis

Competencies:

• Required: Masters Degree in school counseling, higher education, or related 
• Preferred: 3+ years of college admissions experience and/or high school college counseling experience; experience with Scoir 
• Enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the college process and extensive knowledge of varying colleges and post-graduate opportunities
• Excited to contribute to a collaborative, fun, collegial, and dynamic counseling team 
• Enthusiastic, charismatic, creative; possessing strong leadership skills and individual initiative
• Able to work well with a diverse group of students, families, and colleagues
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent written communication skills and technology skills 
• Able to creatively problem-solve while working in a fast-paced school environment
• Strong organizational and administrative abilities, time management, attention to detail
• Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
• Willingness to engage in the life of the school (examples: attending retreats, moderating clubs, chaperoning service trips, etc.)
