Job Description: Kids Ministry Pastor


Reports to: Lead Pastor & Administrative Pastor


Position Purpose: The Kids Ministry Pastor will be responsible for leading and overseeing the kids ministry of AP Church.


Nature of Working in A Christian Environment:

 The person assuming this responsibility must be spiritually and emotionally mature, friendly and have a good attitude while in the work place. This person must also be able to function on a team and work closely with a large group of volunteers as well as the other staff members. In addition, the candidate must be able to distinguish between the nature of a church environment which depends heavily upon its servant leaders versus a secular environment which works mostly with paid employees. This distinction is critical to the function and success of this position. As a part of the Christian community, it is imperative that employees of the church understand they are viewed as an example of Christian virtues and must be sensitive not to violate these virtues through behavior, attitudes, actions, or speech.

·      Ability to connect relationally with parents, kids, and families

·       Proven ability to develop and implement strategy

·      A willingness and ability to pioneer new things and inspire others to new initiatives

·      To build a culture of discipleship in kids ministry that is shared with parents and leaders

·      Create a safe environment for kids that cultivates growth spiritually and socially


General Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the development and growth of AP Kids Ministry from Birth to 5th grade with consistent creativity and innovation 
  • Build, equip, lead, and manage a team of directors for each department (Nursery, 2 & 3’s, 4 & 5’s, and K-5th) that will assist in overseeing all of the servant leaders in the kids ministry
  • Coordinate with Department Directors in the planning and execution of the monthly schedule of servant leader participation for the kids ministry. 
  • Coordinate and implement teaching series or curriculums used in each department 
  • Coordinate with Department Directors to develop an annual calendar of events for the kids ministry
  • Conduct bi-monthly staff meetings with directors
  • Coordinate quarterly staff meetings for the directors and their departments
  • Conduct two meetings per year for the entire kids department 
  • Serve as the teacher in the K-5th grade dept. at least 2 Sundays a month
  • Develop and implement small groups in the K-5th grade dept. on a monthly basis. 
  • Consistent communication with all parents regarding the teaching series and content in K-5th grade department, event and series promotion, and ways parents can become more involved in the kids ministry
  • Develop relationships with local schools in the community
  • Oversee and manage social media platforms (FB and IG) for the kids ministry
  • Oversee and maintain with department directors the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kids ministry rooms
  • Develop and maintain guest follow-up procedures on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee the direction and integration of the kids ministry into the pace of AP


Leadership Development:

·      Oversee the professional and personal development of servant leader teams

·      Develop your own leadership through books, podcasts, and relationship networking


Administration:

  • Oversee the budgetary and financial decisions for the kids ministry
  • Develop and maintain healthy team relationships with Pastors, Directors, Church Staff, and Ministry Leaders


Expectations:

  • A growing relationship with the Lord that includes regular prayer, worship, and reading of the Word
  • To stay creative and innovative in preparation and production of all duties
  • Help shepherd the people and families of AP Church with love, leadership, and consistency 
  • Continued leadership development through ministry networking, and various training conferences 
  • Be timely, professional, and servant-minded in approach to ministry
  • Do everything with a spirit of excellence

Education or Credential Pre-requisites:

·      Must have excellent skills with people and in communication, organization  attitude skills, problem-solving as well as general computer skills. 

·      A minimum of 3 to 5 years of ministry experience in kids ministry

·      B.A., B.S., Bible College or Seminary degree preferred

·      Experience in raising a family would be an asset

·      Other qualifications and training will be considered
