DIRECTOR OF MUSIC MINISTRIES (PART-TIME)
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Director of Music Ministries is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the music ministry for Calvary Baptist Church.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Be a Christian with a proven record of faithfulness to local church ministry within a
Baptist, congregational church model.
-Knowledge of music theory and the ability to use such knowledge to carry out the music responsibilities and expectations in support of the mission and values of Calvary Baptist Church.
-Demonstrated aptitude or proficiency on one or more instruments including piano and/or voice.
-Working knowledge of music planning programs such as ProPresenter, Planning Center, or similar systems.
-Working knowledge of audio video equipment and systems.
MUSIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Oversee and give directional leadership to the music ministry of the church (by selecting music/programs, conducting regular choir rehearsals, developing, and assisting music ensembles, preparing long-range music plans for the adult choir, and purchasing equipment/materials as needed), assuring a coordinated effort in conjunction with the Music Committee.
-Plan, under the leadership of the Pastor, the weekly order of service for corporate worship.
-Select songs and lead congregational singing and instrumentalists at the Sunday morning worship service, and other services as needed.
-Select anthems and direct the singing of anthems by the adult choir at the Sunday morning worship service, and other services as needed.
-Oversee children's choirs and be in communication with children's leaders for advice and planning.
-Serve as chairperson for the Music Committee, in accordance with the church By-laws
-In conjunction with the Music Committee, plan special music programs throughout the church year as needed.
-Manage and evaluate music ministry support personnel, following the church’s Personnel Guidelines as it pertains to paid staff.
-Coordinate accompanists’ schedules for choir practices, services, and other events, managing their time sheets to ensure accurate compensation.
-Work approximately twenty (20) hours per week; primarily on Sunday and during other choir rehearsal times at the church. Administrative time for planning, coordinating, and implementing the music ministries may occur remotely outside of the church facilities.
GENERAL MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Be in regular and proper communication with the Pastor and ministry support staff to assure inclusion of all necessary information in church publications.
-Attend regular staff meetings as well as other relevant church meetings, including but not limited to music committee meetings and church business meetings.
-Serve as music liaison at the monthly Church Council meetings to coordinate music events with the Church Council
-All other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor and/or Personnel Committee
