Title: Student Minister
Classification: Full Time, salaried
Responsible to: Director of Family Ministries and SPRC
Purpose: To lead students in to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and to model and encourage spiritual growth in students while providing oversight and development of Student Ministries at CBGUMC
Qualifications
- Deeply committed Christ-follower, expected to be an active member of CBGUMC
- Evidence of a growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ who strives to live above reproach
- Must be able to pass a background check and complete Safe Sanctuary training.
- Independent self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
- Excellent organizational and goal oriented skills
- Ability to multitask several projects at one time
- Team player
- Outgoing and winsome personality a plus
- Effective communicator (including the ability to effectively preach and teach God’s Word to students).
- Organized and orderly (keeps office, storage, and other areas safe, neat, and clean)
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. Some college preferred.
- Previous experience in leading and mentoring students.
- Participate in ongoing continuing education for student ministries (stay current)
- Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and Publisher) is required
- Proficient at utilizing current social media applications
- Proficient at utilizing Pro-Presenter
- Knowledge of office equipment (copier, folding machine, scanner, fax)
Description of Duties The responsibilities of the Student Minister include, but are not limited to, the following duties:
- Build relationships with students, learn their spiritual needs and minister to them
- Build relationship with student’s parents to encourage them in their spiritual walk
- Develop small groups where students can grow in their relationship with Jesus
- Develop mission opportunities to engage students in serving in the area where God has given them passion.
- Develop students to be a witness of the good news of Jesus Christ in their schools and in the world
- Teach students Biblical stewardship principles.
- Oversee student worship experiences (Wednesday night and other)
- Lead youth praise band and develop young musicians to use their talents in worship
- Lead worship for our Family Experience worship services
- Teach and preach effectively the Word of God to students
- Coordinate Confirmation and spiritual development classes
- Develop specialized ministries for junior high and senior high students as soon as numbers and ratios allow, as appropriate
- Develop specialized ministries for boys and girls as soon as numbers and ratios allow, as appropriate
- Work with Senior Pastor & Director of Family Ministries to make sure the mission and vision of the church are understood and woven into the fabric of the student ministry (alignment)
- Operate student ministry within the strategy assigned by the Senior Pastor & Director of Family Ministries(currently Orange)
- Evaluate effectiveness of student ministries and making adjustments as needed for maximal effectiveness
- Clearly communicate any changes to student ministry with all council members
- Develop effective systems: managing attendance, communicating with students and parents, planning and scheduling events, transitioning tweens into student ministry
- Work closely with Children’s Ministry for maximal synergy between ministries
- Schedule and plan winter break, spring break and summer activities (UMARMY, Big House or Summit, Church Camp, retreats)
- Encourage student involvement, as appropriate, in the life of the greater congregation of CBGUMC
- Incorporate fun fellowship activities in balance with spiritual growth opportunities
- Set, manage and maintain the student ministry budget
- Plan and coordinate fund raisers for student ministry in conjunction with Finance Team regulations
- Recruit,, train and develop student leaders and adult volunteers
- Recruit and supervise youth intern(s), if utilized
- Any other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
