Position Summary

Gateway Christian Church is seeking a full-time Children’s Minister to lead and grow our ministry to children from birth through elementary (grade 5).

This leader will create safe, engaging, and biblically grounded environments where children come to know and follow Jesus while partnering with families in the spiritual development of their children.

The Children’s Minister will lead a volunteer team, oversee weekly and seasonal programming, and help expand outreach efforts that connect with families in our community. The candidate will step into an established ministry while helping it continue to grow and strengthen in the years ahead.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

Ministry Leadership

• Provide vision and leadership for children’s ministry environments
• Ensure programming aligns with the mission and values of Gateway Christian Church
• Maintain safe, welcoming, and engaging ministry spaces

Ministry Programming

• Lead and oversee Sunday morning children’s programming
• Coordinate midweek programming during the school year
• Plan and lead summer programming, camps, conferences, and special events
• Provide leadership for seasonal programming, including Easter and Christmas services
• Select and implement biblically sound curriculum

Volunteer Development

• Recruit, train, and support volunteer teams
• Build a healthy volunteer culture marked by encouragement, ownership, and teamwork
• Equip volunteers to serve children and families effectively

Family Partnership & Communication

• Partner with parents as primary spiritual leaders in their homes
• Maintain consistent and clear communication with families
• Provide resources and encouragement for faith development at home
• Utilize digital and personal communication to build strong relationships with families

Outreach & Community Engagement

• Develop outreach opportunities that connect children and families to Gateway
• Lead events such as Vacation Bible School and/or other community-focused initiatives
• Build relationships with families beyond Sunday gatherings

Safety & Administration

• Ensure child safety policies and volunteer screening procedures are followed
• Manage ministry supplies and budget responsibly

Team Collaboration

• Serve as an active member of the church staff team
• Participate in staff meetings and church-wide initiatives
• Assist with church events and ministry needs as requested
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Lifestyle consistent with biblical character and Christian leadership
• Genuine love for children and families
• Strong relational and communication skills
• Ability to recruit, lead, and develop volunteers
• Organizational and leadership ability
• Experience working with children in ministry and/or educational environments preferred
• Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant ministry experience preferred
• Active member, or willing to become an active member, of Gateway Christian Church

Gateway Christian Church was established in September of 1976 and is an independent christian church with ties to the Restoration Movement. Our desire is to follow the Biblical model of the New Testament Church as we serve the Lord and worship Him in our contemporary culture. We hold firmly to the Scriptures as being our only rule of faith and practice.
