Job Description

Purpose

The Director of Sunday School Ministries provides leadership and vision for the whole-family through programs, education, and connections. The outcomes of this position:

·        Build a sustainable ministry for Sunday School and fellowship.

·        Develop programs that will offer direction and support for Sunday School.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:              

Lead Children's Sunday School Ministry/Christian Education for Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church, Menomonee Falls, WI.

Coordinate and equip the necessary leadership teams to mentor and lead Christian Education in order to create a cohesive discipleship plan for our children ranging from Nursery through 12th grade.

                         

Develop Our Sunday School Curriculum

Work with the Lead Pastor to develop a consistent, well-aligned curriculum for programs of Nursery thru 12th Grade Sunday School.

Manage Student/Teacher Rosters/Data Base

Coordinate volunteers to maintain an up-to- date roster/data base of the following: 

Nursery (up to 3 years old)

Jesus’ Place (3-4 years old)

K-5th Grade Sunday School

6-12th Grade Sunday School

Manage Volunteers Schedule and Mentoring

Coordinate with the Sunday School Ministry Team to ensure volunteers are available to teach Sunday School each week.

Provide teacher training

Special Program Oversight

Lead the planning and coordination of special events such as: monthly Intergenerational Sunday School, Bible Presentation Sunday, Fall Kick-Off with other ministry teams, Teacher Training, Children’s Mission projects (e.g. ,Children’s Market Place)

Meeting Attendance:

Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly Church Council meetings, and monthly Ministry Team meetings.

Budget Management:

Manage annual budget set forth by the Finance Committee for all programs pertaining to Sunday School Ministries.

Strong Communication:

Effectively communicate with the congregation about Sunday School Ministries: 

Manage Children & Family Ministries Facebook Group

Provide information to Marketing Team for ECUMC Facebook Page, website, and scrolling sign

Submit weekly items for Community News (bulletin insert)

Submit monthly articles, schedules, and reports to Pathways newsletter

Supervision Requirements & Discretion Allowed:

Address, through problem solving and decision making, all minor issues that arise through the Sunday School Ministries Program. Bring high impact issues to the attention of the Lead Pastor in a timely manner.

 

Training/Experience Required

·        Knowledgeable with stages of child/youth development and the ability to write curriculum appropriate to each age group which follows the teachings of the United Methodist Church.

·        Organized and able to work on several programs at one time

·        Ability to collaborate and communicate with multiple ministry teams and volunteers

·        Comfortable leading both adults and children and able to delegate responsibilities

·        Proficient with office equipment (e.g., copier, computer, telephone) and software programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint, online meeting platforms such as ZOOM).

·        Communication and engagement skills on multiple social media platforms.

·        Active involvement with professional development (e.g., education training, current events)

Note: The ideal candidate will be passionate about sharing the gospel in a way that young people can hear, understand and engage in their own faith journeys.
