Lead Pastor for Grace Crossing Church


Direct Report: Elder Board


Job Description:

To provide leadership to Grace Crossing Church (GCC) in order to fulfill our unique contribution to the work of God’s Kingdom. This includes seeking, discerning, and praying through collaboration with the Elders, Staff and relations with the wider Body of Christ.


Position Classification

  • Full time Salary (Exempt)


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead Shepherd
  • Serve as the spiritual leader of  the GCC community
  • Oversee and work alongside Associate Pastor to ensure integration of Vision/Mission/Values (VMV) throughout the culture of GCC
  • Provide organizational leadership, keeping GCC’s VMV at the forefront of all strategic planning and budgeting
  • Collaborate with Associate Pastor in setting short-term strategic direction and management of staff moving forward with VMV
  • Oversee development of the Staff Team alongside Associate Pastor
  • Gives oversight for all worship and ministry that takes place at GCC


  • Lead Elder 
  • Serve as Chair of the Elder Board, functioning as a voting member of the Elder Board 
  • Lead and develop Elders 
  • Planning and execution of all Elder Board meetings, including monthly agenda meetings, fellowships, and/or retreats
  • Collaborate with the Elder Board in setting long-term strategic direction (2–3 year plan), in keeping with our VMV and KSI’s (Kingdom Strategic Initiatives)
  • Prayerfully discern and identify potential elder candidates
  • Collaborate with the Elder Board and ensure they are thinking organizationally


  • Lead Communicator
  • Serve as the Lead Communicator at GCC
  • Prayerfully discern God’s direction for all sermon series, praying through how to creatively communicate scriptural truths in an inspiring and accessible manner
  • Partner and work closely with the Associate Pastor/Creative Arts Director to ensure services are executed in a manner consistent with the VMV and culture
  • Meet monthly with Service Planning Team in preparation for weekend services
  • Oversee speakers and speaking rotation to ensure all teaching and theology are in alignment with the VMV and culture


  • General Pastoral
  • Model a godly lifestyle in all marriage, family, and ministry areas
  • Live and lead through Emotional Health; leads well through marriage
  • Set aside time daily to pray, study and listen for God and to God on behalf of GCC
  • Devotion to cultivate and care well for the “soul” of your leadership through regular solitude, silence, scripture and Sabbath as well as periodic sabbaticals
  • Alongside the Elder Board and ministry staff, provide pastoral care for the GCC community


  • Beyond GCC
  • Create enough space to get outside GCC to become more mindful of the broad movement of God and its impact on our local church 
  • Think beyond GCC to bring new ministry ideas and ways of doing ministry into GCC 
  • Network with pastors and church leaders in Beavercreek and the Dayton region to get a pulse on Kingdom expansion and what God is doing at large
  • Serve the wider Body of Christ through partnership with ministries and missions’ organizations that are aligned with GCC’s VMV and culture


Experience/Leadership Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in theology or a related field preferred
  • Gifted in biblical communication and application through personal and practical integration
  • Ability to lead self, others, teams and organizationally
  • Ability to cast vision and execute with a team toward the VMV
  • Ability to navigate complex personnel issues in a manner that is consistent with Emotionally Healthy Relationship value
  • Models Oneness in life and ministry
  • Demonstrates courage in the midst of high stress and challenging dynamics
  • Strong application of growth in personal life and character
  • Faithfully stewards financial resources
  • Solution oriented - able to problem solve
  • Ability to hold in tension both the individual and the organization

Grace Crossing Church is a diverse church basking in cultural, racial, political, and spiritual backgrounds.  We believe God has called us to be open and welcoming to all who want to hear God’s truth…our encouragement is “Come as you are and grow.”  Our departing pastor of 23 years exemplified this culture, openly living and leading by example, while continuously growing and evolving our church to where we are today.  We operate under the Assemblies of God church structure, but have an Elder Board of various spiritual backgrounds.  This has led us to become a place where people come to be loved and often healed from difficult past spiritual experiences.  We are a church of broken people for broken people.   


This amazing evolution culminated in 2016 with our very powerful vision statement.  “As we look into the future we see an emotionally healthy church, filled with fully surrendered Christ followers, whose hearts are set ablaze to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.”
