Job Description

Purpose:

The Brookstone Kids Pastor oversees all Brookstone Kids’ ministry programming (Birth-5th) along with partnering with families to be the primary disciple maker of their kids. He faithfully serves as the leader of the Brookstone Kids ministry by equipping team members for all gatherings. This role also includes providing leadership to the Homeschool Ministry and Brookstone Kids Camper Ministry.

  • A Christ-like testimony that is displayed inside and outside the workplace.
  • An expressed passion and calling for serving Jesus in a Kingdom-minded, fast-paced, local church setting.
  • A proven team builder with the necessary initiative, gifts and skills to recruit, train and release people into various service opportunities in the Brookstone Kids ministry.
  • Ability to strategically plan and provide vision to move the team forward and consistently look for ways to improve and advance the Brookstone Kids ministry.
  • Demonstrates initiative with an ability to work effectively apart from close supervision
  • Proactive communicator who initiates mission-critical details inside and outside of weekly team meetings.
  • A minimum of 5 years pastoral experience in Children’s or Family ministry in a large church context
  • An eye for excellence with a demonstrated ability to improve upon systems and procedures.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn and regularly use software Brookstone Church uses on a daily basis (Planning Center, Google Suite, etc.)
  • Highly organized, team-player, fast learner, committed to excellence.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a passion to see children experience a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Pray regularly for each member of the Children’s Ministry staff and each child in your ministry.
  • Build relationships with children and their parents to foster a sense of community where people (team members, students, parents) are known and personally cared for.
  • Provide a safe, fun and engaging learning environment for children to become more and more like Jesus.
  • Continually search for new ways to keep children’s ministry exciting, fresh, and FUN.
  • Implement a comprehensive and intentional plan to disciple kids through their life stages.
  • Equip and empower parents to become the primary disciple-makers of their families.
  • Follow up with those who express an interest in serving within Brookstone Kids ministry via Planning Center Workflows.
  • Oversee and provide leadership to all regularly scheduled activities: Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Homeschool Ministry, Camper Ministry, etc… from the concept stage to measurement and maintenance stage.
  • Responsible for all areas that make up Brookstone Kids (Forest Friends, Tree House, Camp Brookstone and Trail 45).
  • Schedule/oversee and ensure small and large group leaders for each week from a list of dedicated volunteers using Planning Center Services.
  • Lead the large group time (Bible study and/or worship), involving other teachers as appropriate.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, retain, equip and support a thriving team of leaders and volunteers who are doing the work of the ministry alongside you.
  • Provide clear communication among both staff and volunteers.
  • Implement approved weekly curriculum (Orange curriculum) and worship experiences in preschool and grade school environments.
  • Greet, welcome, and orient new families to Brookstone Kids ministry. Contact First Time Guest Families.
  • Be familiar with and able to jump in to help with check-in and check-out procedures in Planning Center.
  • Meet with parents as necessary (discipleship, baptisms, counseling etc.).
  • Attend all assigned meetings: Monthly Staff-Wide Meeting, Weekly Brookstone Kids Staff Team Meetings, SLD Team Monthly Meeting, Brookstone Kids Leadership Retreat, etc…
  • Make calls, send texts, send cards to kids on a regular basis and be available for hospital visits and counseling as needs arise.
  • Plan and execute special events (Summer Splash, Candy Craze, etc…)
  • Oversee and schedule Baby D class and baby dedications and reception afterward.
  • Use Planning Center to collect all relevant contact information for both new and existing Brookstone Kids families.
  • Learn any needed software for Large Group time Keynote, Pro Presenter 7, etc…
  • Work intentionally to collaborate and build cohesion across the children’s ministry areas, and with other ministries such as outreach, care, connections, and worship. Demonstrate a willingness and availability to actively support Brookstone Church events and all-church initiatives throughout the year.
  • Innovate and make things better. Develop and implement high-quality, forward-looking solutions within your sphere of responsibilities. Replicate great ideas, and don’t be afraid to try new ones for the sake of engaging children and families even better. Be proactive; be willing to “think outside of the box” to solve problems; consistently contribute your best effort and attitude and inspire others to do the same.
  • Serve as a member of the pastoral staff and assist in pastoral duties such as hospital visitation, phone calls, and other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or Executive Pastor.
  • Evaluate, maintain, and assist in developing policies and procedures for volunteers to ensure the safety of all children.
  • Help determine when classes need additional staffing.
  • Plan and complete the promotion of all small groups to the next age/grade.
  • Submit and maintain the Brookstone Kids Ministry yearly budget and provide monthly reconciliation of all expenses made including the capture of sales tax.
  • Cast vision for growth in Brookstone Kids ministry and advocate for needed or suggested changes.
  • Create, evaluate, and implement yearly goals and action plans for Brookstone Kids ministry.
  • Develop and approve an annual Children’s Ministry calendar for both a plan of teaching and activities.
  • Plan and coordinate a regular training program for all Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers to include relevant safety protocols, evacuation procedures, youth protection policy, etc….
  • Communicate the church’s approved Youth Protection Policy to all Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers and regularly evaluate its use and take necessary steps to put the policy into practice.
  • Alert appropriate administrative office staff when a background check is needed for both prospective volunteers and current volunteers whose background check is expiring.
  • Observe, evaluate, and affirm teachers in order to note strengths to encourage any areas where improvement is possible.
  • Express appreciation to the Children’s Ministry staff, including an end-of-the-year event.
  • Create partnerships with local schools and community organizations.


Works with: Interns, Ministry Assistant, Pre-School Coordinator, Camp Brookstone Assistant and other and team leaders.


Personal Discipleship


  • Maintain a vital and growing relationship with the Lord through consistent time in the Word, prayer, and regular worship attendance.
  • Commit to EE training (Evangelism). Participate in evangelism both personally and organizationally.
  • Strive to maintain and protect biblical priorities in the home.
  • Model the practice of wise stewardship.
  • Seek to maintain accountability through participation in a relational environment.


Accountability


  • The Brookstone Kids Pastor reports to the Executive Pastor and Senior Pastor.


Oversight


  • The Brookstone Kids Pastor provides oversight to Ministry Assistant, Pre-School Director, Brookstone Kids Interns, Brookstone Kids Leaders.


Hours


  • Sunday - Thursday. Some other hours may also be required depending on church programs and events.
