Music Director

The South Reno United Methodist Church seeks a talented and dynamic Music Program Leader to oversee and direct the church’s music as part of the leadership team to spread the light of Christ. Our goal is to have a music program that includes opportunities for participation and musical expression for congregants of all ages and all musical genres.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Plan, prepare, coordinate and lead music during worship for Sunday (9:30am), online and special services.

· Collaborate with the minister to choose God’s vision for music to fit sermon themes and work with the church pianist.

· Create an active recruitment plan to expand and strengthen music.

· Coordinate individual performers and small groups of volunteer congregants to provide music (including and beyond the adult choir, bell choir and children's music). Consulting music selection and organize the musical calendar.

· Direct the adult all-volunteer, non-auditioned, choir performing on scheduled Sunday’s from September through June.

· Participate in leadership team meetings. Work with staff slides and music for worship services. Work with the Pastor and volunteers for running of Sound and Audio-Visual Equipment

· Ensure copyright compliance for all music and oversee storage, organization, and indexing of music.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired

Professional:

· Adequate knowledge of music theory and competency in voice and accompaniment instrument.

· Experience performing a variety of styles and genres (classical, jazz, pop...etc).

· Bachelor's degree in music performance, music education, or related field

· Knowledge of contemporary and traditional Christian worship music and familiarity with Christian scripture

· Minimum 3 years of experience leading music/choral ensembles (preferably Christian music).

Interpersonal skills:

· Enthusiastic, and effective leader

· Timely, clear, appropriate, effective communications

· Confidence working with other musicians while playing and leading

· Commitment to serving the church and local community

· Able to consistently plan, teach, and lead music while working effectively with people

· Work independently to complete tasks and responsibilities in a collaborative nature.

· Ability to pass a background check and complete the abuse prevention training.
