About the Position
The Associate Pastor of Students and Young Families leads Bethel Baptist Church’s ministry to students and their families, endeavoring to lead them to maturity in Christ so that they love the Lord with their whole beings and love their neighbor as themselves. To that end, he is responsible for the overall planning, coordinating, promoting, and leading a variety of programs and activities that will develop and strengthen the students in grade 6 through 12 in their Christian walk. In addition, the Associate Pastor of Students and Young Families will oversee SonSeekers (Children’s Ministry), Student Ministry, and College Ministry to disciple families in their walk with Christ.
Job Responsibilities & Duties
MINISTERIAL DUTIES
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates the education programs of the Church for youth from grades K through 12.
- Plans and conducts special projects, spiritual activities, and fellowship events to further BSM (Bethel Student Ministry).
- Develops a yearly plan of work to implement the goals and objectives of BSM with approval of the Senior Pastor.
- Supervises ongoing weekly student activities (Middle School and High School), including oversight of Bible Fellowship and BSM worship gatherings.
- Oversees the enlistment, training, and support of student leaders, parents and volunteers.
- Seeks to lead students and their families to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ through evangelism, discipleship, worship, prayer, ministry and fellowship.
- Engages students outside of church by finding ways to spend time with them, such as, attending extracurricular activities (band concerts, sports events etc.) whenever possible.
- Collaborates with the Senior Adult Team on planning events and activities to encourage intergenerational interaction between BSM and Bethel senior adults.
- Maintains communication with parents regarding BSM activities and events.
- Prays regularly for children, students and their families.
- Coordinates the overall Family Ministry of the Church by working with Children leaders, College Ministry leaders, Men’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry directors, to develop and coordinate a comprehensive plan intended to disciple the whole family.
- Perform other ministerial and administrative duties as assigned.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Maintains contact with new members and works to connect them to the Church.
- Oversees and implements opportunities for special experiences for students such as camps, retreats, mission trips, outings, fellowships, and ministry projects.
- Provides supervision and oversight for the Preschool Director, Children’s Director and College Ministry leaders.
- Provides supervision and oversight for Preschool, Children, Student and College ministry budgets and designated accounts according to church policies.
- Oversees background check procedure and implementation of child protection policy.
DEVELOPMENTAL DUTIES
- Equip and disciple leaders for BSM.
- Collaborates with Children’s Director to equip and disciple leaders for Children Ministries.
- Stays current with the trends and issues impacting today’s families.
- Stays current with SBCV and SBC national entities regarding Student and Family Ministry.
- Maintains a regular program of professional updating and development.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Live a lifestyle of worship fully devoted to the Lord (Rom 12:1-2) that is beyond reproach according to biblical guidelines (1 Tim 3:1-8).
- Affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Steward family well by placing them as first ministry priority (1 Tim 3:1-8).
- Steward finances well with a consistent practice of biblical tithing (Mal 3:10, 1 Cor 16:2).
- Steward time well, understanding that compensation is based on a minimum of forty hours of work per week.
