Detailed Position Description

TITLE

Full-time English Minister at Chinese Lutheran Church of Honolulu (CLCH)

JOB OVERVIEW

The primary role of the full-time English Minister is to shepherd the English-speaking Department of the CLCH through worship, fellowship, discipleship, and evangelism under the direction of the Pastor in Charge. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Leads the church’s English Department with an emphasis on cultivating youth and young adults while shepherding all age groups as the English Department grows in faith and service.

● Preaches the Word of God at Sunday worship services.

● Oversees and teaches Sunday school (currently 6th-8th Grade class, with seasonal Baptism and Confirmation classes).

● Prepares for worship services and (assists to) administer the sacraments.

● Leads the youth and adult fellowships while providing guidance and training to all English fellowships.

● Provides pastoral care for church members, such as hospital visits, family visits, counseling, mentoring/discipleship, etc.

● Teaches a devotional life by modeling spiritual disciplines to fellow leaders and members.

● Assists the church with administrative tasks and organizes special events, such as retreats, camping, mission trips, etc.

● Attends all staff meetings and collaborates with the Mandarin and Cantonese Departments.

● Performs other duties as assigned by the Pastor in Charge.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Graduate of an accredited seminary (ATS or ATESEA affiliated) or equivalent. Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from an accredited seminary (ATS or ATESEA affiliated) or equivalent is preferred.

● Evangelical Bible-based theological perspective, with knowledge and acceptance of Lutheran confessional teachings.

● Experience in youth and young adult ministry.

● Experience in growing a multi-generational church is desired.

● Christ-like characters (spiritual fruit, example to the flock).

● Familiarity with Chinese culture or proficiency in Mandarin is a plus.

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be based on overall qualifications and experience, consistent with current church policy. Benefits include CLCH standard offerings such as individual medical, dental, and vision insurance and vacation and sick leave.

Located in Urban Honolulu, Chinese Lutheran Church of Honolulu was established in 1974, we are a multi-language and multi-generational Chinese American Lutheran Church. We have over 400 worshippers between the Chinese and English service. The church building was built in 2005. The English department serves all ages with 50-65 people on average. Our last English minister was with us for 10 years. We are searching for an associate pastor to lead the church’s English department with an emphasis on cultivating youth and young adults while shepherding all age groups as the English department grows in faith and service.
