Senior/Lead Pastor Job Description
Position Summary
The Senior/Lead Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of the church, responsible for proclaiming the gospel, teaching biblical truth, and shepherding the congregation. This role requires strong leadership, collaboration with elders/board, and a heart for discipleship, outreach, and pastoral care. The pastor will guide the church in fulfilling the Great Commission while fostering spiritual growth, unity, and Christ-centered living.
Qualifications
- Holds formal biblical or theological training.
- Meets biblical elder qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9).
- Demonstrates mature Christian faith, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
- Has proven ability to preach scripture-based sermons with clarity and conviction.
- Can foster unity and trust within the congregation.
- Maintains strong, healthy relationships within family and church community.
- Fully aligns with the church’s constitution, by-laws, and doctrinal beliefs.
Primary Responsibilities
Leadership & Vision
- Provide spiritual leadership and vision, working collaboratively with elders/board.
- Equip and mentor church leaders, fostering discipleship and spiritual growth.
- Guide the congregation toward biblical maturity and mission-focused engagement.
- Establish strategic direction for church growth and impact.
Preaching & Teaching
- Prepare and deliver biblically sound sermons that apply Scripture to daily life.
- Lead Sunday worship services with Christ-centered preaching.
- Oversee and delegate Bible study and discipleship programs.
- Ensure preaching aligns with the church’s mission of making disciples.
Pastoral Care
- Provide biblical counsel to church members in need.
- Offer spiritual guidance, encouragement, and relational support.
- Conduct funerals, weddings, baptisms, and communion.
- Visit hospitals and congregants in need of care.
- Foster a culture of prayer, hospitality, and relational shepherding.
Church Management
- Oversee ministry programs.
- Work with elders and church board to guide ministry programs and church direction.
- Promote sustainable ministry programs that engage the congregation’s gifts and talents.
Community Engagement
- Actively participate in local outreach, missions, and engagement with schools/organizations.
- Foster relationships focused on disciple-making and evangelism.
- Position the church as a hub for community growth and service.
Employment Details
- Can be Full-time or Part-time (Bi-vocational) depending on church needs.
- Salaried position with opportunity for growth into full-time ministry.
- Reports to Elders & Board.
