Lead Pastor

Lead Pastor – One Hope Church (Gig Harbor, WA)

Position Purpose

The pastor will provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to the members and visitors of One Hope Church. The pastor will preach, teach, and administer the Sacraments. The person in this position will give primary leadership in the ministries of Worship and Music, Outreach, Evangelism, and Spiritual Growth. The pastor, in cooperation with the Board of Elders, will give supportive direction for all congregational ministries and Action Teams.

Supervision

The pastor is an equal voting member of the Board of Elders and will lead One Hope Church in cooperation with the Board and the congregation.

Responsibilities

Subject to review and adjustment in conjunction with the Board of Elders, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the pastor.

I. Worship

Preach and teach the Word of God and administer the Sacraments for weekly worship as well as special occasions, e.g., Advent, Lent, and Holy Week.

Plan and lead worship in conjunction with the Worship and Music Team.

Officiate at special services such as weddings and funerals.

Oversee the integration of visitors and new members in cooperation with the First Impressions Team.

Promote and lead occasional innovative worship experiences, e.g. outreach days, alternative times of worship, outside the church building walls, etc.

II. Outreach

In cooperation with the Outreach Team and the International Missions Team, implement ministries that reach out in tangible ways for OHC to be God’s hands and feet within our community and throughout the world 

Teach, motivate and assist members in being alert to opportunities for filling needs and then doing it with Christ-like loving response in practical and creative ways.

Make pastoral calls to members and others who are in need of pastoral care. Pastoral care will be provided through the most effective means possible.

Support, affirm and encourage Stephen Ministry as a resource available especially for those who are personally experiencing life’s difficult challenges.

III. Spiritual Growth

Train, equip and inspire members to grow in faith and motivate them for sharing the Gospel.

In cooperation with the Children and Youth Team, oversee coordinated and comprehensive education for all age groups.

Encourage and support Small Groups.

Expectations

The Pastor position requires great flexibility in time schedule, including evenings and weekends.

The pastor will schedule regular weekly office hours and be readily available via mobile communication at other times. The pastor will be out in the community among those God would have us reach. The pastor is strongly encouraged to take 1-2 days off each week depending on the needs of the congregation.

Two weeks of Continuing Education may be granted each year; however, it is not cumulative year to year. The proposal for this study time needs to be submitted to the Board of Elders for endorsement.
