Job Description

As our part-time Family Outreach Director, you will work alongside a team of staff and volunteers to build relationships with families across Metro Detroit, create welcoming environments for kids, and help parents feel seen, supported, and connected. The schedule includes Sunday mornings along with flexible hours during the week, making this a great fit for someone who enjoys connecting with people and investing in families.

We are seeking a warm, relational, and mission-driven Family Outreach Director to help build bridges between DFMC and families in Metro Detroit. This role focuses on community engagement, family connection, children’s ministry leadership, and communication that reflects DFMC’s heart for families. You will serve as part of a collaborative team of staff and volunteers, working together to reach and disciple families.


The person who thrives in this role genuinely loves people. They enjoy meeting new families, connecting with parents, and creating environments where families feel welcomed and valued. They are self-starters who take initiative while also collaborating well with staff and volunteers. They enjoy working with others and understand that meaningful ministry happens best through a team, not in isolation. Most importantly, they care deeply about helping families discover the hope and transformation found in Jesus.


Primary Responsibilities 1. Family Outreach & Connection (~6–8 hrs/week)

● Build relationships with families in Metro Detroit through community engagement.

● Develop partnerships with local schools, libraries, parks, and family-oriented programs, working alongside a team of volunteers and church leaders.

● Meet parents for coffee and find ways to support them in their parenting journey.

● Create entry events for families (e.g., Family Fun Night, parenting workshops, seasonal events).

● Develop a simple “next steps” pathway that helps families move from event → Sunday → relationship → discipleship.

● Collect and maintain family contact information to build ongoing connections. 


2. Children’s Ministry Leadership (~3–5 hrs/week)

● Lead and oversee the children’s ministry team on Sunday mornings.

● Coordinate with existing ministries to further the spiritual growth of families.

● Ensure communication across all levels of family ministry.

● Recruit, train, and support volunteers to ensure a safe, joyful environment.

● Create a positive, consistent, and fun environment that kids want to return to.

● Coordinate check-in/check-out systems and safety protocols.

● Ensure curriculum and supplies are available each week.

● Welcome new families personally and follow up within 24–48 hours through text, call, or message.


Social Media & Communication (2 hrs/week)

● Share photos, stories, and updates that reflect DFMC’s heart for families.

● Promote family-oriented events online.

● Strengthen DFMC’s digital strategy to reach unchurched families in Metro Detroit. 4. Administrative Duties (~2 hrs/week)

● Attend staff meetings.

● Produce required reports.

● Assist with general administrative tasks related to the ministry.

● Any other tasks as assigned by the Lead Pastor


Qualifications

● A growing relationship with Jesus and a desire to help others know Him.

● Demonstrates a commitment to Wesleyan theology and its faithful expression in both belief and practice within the church.

● A warm, engaging personality with strong relational skills; someone who naturally connects with people and loves reaching and discipling children, teens, and families.

● Prior experience investing in the spiritual development of families.

● Ability to organize, communicate, and recruit volunteers.

● Ability to create social media content (Facebook, Instagram).

● Ability to work independently to initiate outreach efforts while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.

● Minimum two years of college required, degree preferred.

● Successful criminal background check.

● Must become a missional partner (member) within the first 3-6 months of employment at DFMC.


Hours & Compensation

● ~15 hours per week.

● Schedule includes Sunday mornings + flexible scheduling hours during the week.

● Starting Salary: $18,000–$22,000 annually, depending on experience. Compensation will be reviewed annually based on performance.

● Benefits: Not offered for this position.
