Job Title: Director of Children's Ministry


Reports To: Senior Pastor


Hours: 25-30 hours per week, including weekly Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings plus occasional special events.


Benefits and Vacation/Sick Time: As defined in the Personnel Policy; plus children may attend our Christian school (South Jersey Christian Academy) at no cost to the employee.


Pay: $27,000


Overview

The Director of Children and Family Ministries serves as a spiritual leader, visionary, and organizer who cultivates a Christ-centered ministry for children (infants through 4th grade) and their families. This role creates an engaging, nurturing environment where children experience God’s love, grow in their faith, and begin a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ, while also equipping parents as their children’s primary spiritual influencers. Although the primary focus is the Children’s Ministry within the church, the Director will occasionally support South Jersey Christian Academy (SJCA) as needed. The responsibilities outlined below provide an overview of the position, though additional tasks may arise outside these parameters.


Core Responsibilities

Vision and Leadership

● Develop and articulate a clear vision for Children and Family Ministries that aligns with the overall mission and values of Sicklerville Church.

● Lead the ministry with creativity and passion, cultivating an atmosphere that encourages growth, worship, and spiritual formation for children and families.

● Partner with the Senior Pastor to discern ministry goals, curriculum, themes, and annual objectives.

● Support and participate in overall church worship, outreach, and discipleship efforts.

Program Development and Implementation

● Design and oversee age-appropriate ministry programs, including: Kids’ Worship, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Nursery, Alive, community outreach events, and seasonal celebrations.

● Develop a cohesive strategy for best utilizing children’s curriculum resources that integrates biblical teaching, worship, fellowship, and service opportunities.

● Collaborate with church and school staff to ensure the ministry calendar is well-planned and balanced with other activities.

Volunteer Recruitment, Training, and Support

● Identify, recruit, equip, and empower volunteers for all Children and Family Ministry programs through regular training (at least quarterly), encouragement, and feedback for volunteers.

● Host periodic workshops, appreciation events, and team-building opportunities to sustain volunteer engagement and morale.

Family Engagement and Support

● Build strong relationships with parents and families, offering guidance, prayer, and connecting with supportive resources.

● Plan family-centered events and initiatives that foster intergenerational connections and faith conversations.

● Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity for varying family dynamics.

Administration and Communication

● Manage all administrative aspects of the ministry, including scheduling, registration, record-keeping, and communication with families and volunteers.

● Develop and maintain a detailed annual budget for the ministry, ensuring responsible stewardship of church resources.

● Collaborate with the church office to create regular updates, reports, and promotional materials for bulletins, enewsletters, and social media.

● Ensure all children’s activities comply with the Safe Church Policy, including background checks, volunteer screening, and incident reporting procedures.

Qualifications

● A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a growing personal relationship with God.

● Must be able to pass a background check.

● Demonstrates servant leadership, humility, integrity, strong interpersonal skills, a teachable spirit, and a love for children.

● Previous experience leading children’s or family ministries in a church or Christian educational setting preferred.

● Strong skills in organization, communication, and volunteer leadership.

● Creative thinker with a heart for connecting families to the life of the church.

● Comfortable working collaboratively with staff, lay leaders, and congregants.

● Familiarity with current children’s ministry trends, technology, and curriculum resources.

● Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development through conferences, courses, and ministry training opportunities.
