Summary

Mount Olive Baptist Church in Centreville, VA, is seeking an Executive Director of Worship, Music, and the Creative Arts to cultivate a vibrant worship experience by developing and implementing a diverse repertoire of musical programming that enhances the spiritual life of its congregants. With its rich history in the African American tradition, Mount Olive Baptist Church features a distinctive worship style central to each service, particularly on Sundays. Our soul-stirring hymns and contemporary gospel selections, accompanied by musical instrumentation and creative arts, invite the Spirit of God, highlighting the delivered Word through the Senior Pastor's sermons and servanthood.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Worship Planning and Leadership


The Executive Director will collaborate with the Senior Pastor and/or their designee to plan and coordinate worship services, ensuring that music selections align with the Senior Pastor's vision, messages, and sermons.


Music Ministry


  • Plans for and/or leads congregational singing during Sunday worship services, pastor's engagements, special events, (e.g., Homecoming, Church Anniversaries, etc.) and liturgical services (Easter, Advent, Christmas, and Pentecost) and life event services (funerals and weddings), ensuring that the music selections align with the theme and message.
  • Assures and introduces new hymns/songs and liturgical elements for each service and season, integrating past and present music genres.
  • Recruits, trains, and mentors the music volunteers and worship team members of all ages.

 

Creative Arts Ministry


  • Develops and integrates creative arts into worship services, including drama, dance, mime, and other creative arts.
  • Collaborates with artists and volunteers to plan and produce creative worship experiences.
  • Encourages artistic expression as a means of enhancing spiritual growth and worship.


Community Engagement


  • Participates in community events that promote the church's mission and music ministry.
  • Fosters relationships with local musicians and organizations to enhance the church's musical offerings.


Ministry Administration


  • Manages the music budget, including purchasing music and supplies, hiring musicians, and coordinating special events.
  • Maintains and organizes the library of music resources, ensuring accessibility for musicians and volunteers.
  • Provides spiritual guidance and support to choir members and musicians, fostering their growth in faith and musical skills.
  • Works closely with other ministry leaders to support church-wide initiatives and events.
  • Communicates effectively with the congregation about music ministry opportunities, including auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Oversees the proper use of musical instruments and equipment within the church.
  • Develops a comprehensive music program that includes traditional, contemporary, and multicultural music.
  • Collaborates with the MOBC audiovisual technical team to ensure consistent, professional sound quality for effective ministry.
  • Coordinates with the MOBC audiovisual technical team to feature the ministry through various media on the MOBC website and social media platforms.


 Qualifications and Requirements

 

  • A bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in music theory, creative arts, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • A deep understanding of music theory, vocal and instrumental performance, and various musical styles.
  • Demonstrates a professional instrumentalist and vocalist well-versed in musical genres related to the African American worship experience.
  • A commitment to the mission and vision of the church, with a personal faith that reflects the teachings of Christ.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience and relevant experience in church music ministry.
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument (piano preferred and familiarity with music technology and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach vocals, plan, or conduct workshops for all ages.
  • Experience as a recording artist preferred.
  • Experience collaborating closely with clergy and ministry leaders is a key aspect of this role, ensuring that you will be an integral part of a supportive team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and inspire others.
  • A deep commitment to continuous spiritual growth, worship, and the congregation's mission and values.
  • Effective skills in Microsoft applications, Google Docs, and general office principles.
  • Appropriate care of instruments, using general operational knowledge of microphones, sound, and AV equipment.

The incumbent will be committed to perpetual spiritual, personal, and professional development, including attending workshops, conferences, and other continuing education opportunities, ensuring that their growth is a priority.

Work Schedule:  Full-time with Flexible Hours

Salary Range:     $75K - $100K plus Benefits

Pay Schedule:     Bi-monthly

Reports To:       The Senior Pastor, who may assign general supervision to a member of the MOBC Clergy. The Executive Director will collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor and other ministry leaders to ensure the smooth operation of the Worship, Music, and Creative Arts ministry.

Supervises:         Choir directors, choir leaders, musicians, worship leaders (praise team), and coordinators of creative arts (i.e., dramatic presentations, praise dancers, mime, step, spoken word, etc.).
