Job description:

Job Title: Worship Director

Start Date: June 15th

Position Summary

The Worship & Production Director is a Holy Spirit-filled leader gifted at ushering people into the presence of God through music and production. This leader creates spirit-led, engaging, and modern worship environments that foster the praise and adoration of the Lord. They will plan with excellence while remaining sensitive to what the Holy Spirit is doing in any given moment—willing to pivot in light of what God is doing.

Beyond leading worship, this person has knowledge of audio, lighting, live streaming, and set design—they are responsible for equipping the technical arts team, establishing production standards, and ensuring the technical environment supports what God is doing in the room.

There will be an expectation to provide leadership and oversee all aspects of worship in alignment with the mission, vision, and theology of the Wesleyan Church Discipline (https://www.wesleyan.org/about/our-beliefs).

Worship Leadership

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead weekly Sunday worship services in collaboration with the Lead Pastor.
  • Select music, interactive prayer elements, and scripture readings that enhance worship and align with the weekly message and series direction.
  • Thoughtfully introduce new songs that reflect both contemporary and traditional expressions of worship.
  • Design and lead worship for special services, including the Lord’s Supper, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter, Christmas, funerals, and midweek gatherings.
  • Lead with sensitivity to the Holy Spirit—willing to extend a moment, shift direction, lead spontaneous worship, or pause for prayer and prophetic ministry. We are not looking for someone who manufactures moments but someone who recognizes and responds to what God is already doing.
  • Cultivate a worship culture rooted in prayer, authenticity, and spiritual depth across the entire team.

Production & Technical Leadership

While leading worship from the stage on Sundays, this role is also responsible for maintaining the overall production standard. This means building the systems, training the volunteers, and setting the baselines that the production team works from each week.

  • Audio: Working knowledge of live sound for in-house worship environments. Create and dial in baseline mixes that volunteer sound operators can confidently work from. Train and develop the sound team on the board, troubleshoot issues, and establish standards for consistent quality week to week. Experience with the Allen & Heath SQ-7 and in-ear monitor systems is a bonus, but experience on any soundboard will do!
  • Lighting: Design and program lighting that supports the mood and moment of each service. Experience with DMX-based systems preferred. Create intentional lighting looks for different seasons and special services. Train volunteers to execute lighting cues and make real-time adjustments.
  • Set Design: Conceptualize and build the general stage backdrop and worship environment—creative, budget-conscious, and honoring to the Lord. Willingness to get hands dirty with light construction, painting, and physical setup. Ability to occasionally lift 50+ lb objects and operate a scissor lift for rigging and set work.
  • Livestream & Media: Oversee the quality of the livestream worship experience, ensuring that both video and audio are clear and well-balanced for those joining online. Working knowledge of ProPresenter 7 to equip the team in presenting worship lyrics and sermon notes in a way that engages the congregation with excellence.

Team Development

  • Recruit, schedule, and support a team of volunteers, including musicians, vocalists, and creative contributors.
  • Mentor and disciple team members—nurturing both their spiritual lives and their artistic abilities.
  • Create a team culture defined by prayer, sensitivity to the Spirit, accountability, and growth.
  • Identify and develop emerging leaders within the worship team.
  • Encourage the broader congregation to use their creative gifts for Kingdom purposes.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Participate in the annual budget process and develop annual personal and ministry goals.
  • Maintain all required licenses (streaming, CCLI, etc.) and manage the creative arts budget.
  • Schedule and lead regular worship planning and production team meetings.
  • Create and manage volunteer schedules and rehearsal plans.
  • Attend and participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Be fully engaged in the mission, vision, and covenant of Fellowship Wesleyan Church.

Qualifications

  • A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and a heart that is sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
  • Alignment with Wesleyan Church beliefs and values.
  • Knowledge of audio, lighting, and set design—equipped to train others and establish production standards.
  • Proficient in leading congregational worship with a full band (vocals and/or instruments).
  • A worship leader who plans with excellence and holds plans with open hands—responsive to the Spirit over the set list.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • A pastoral heart that prioritizes people and the presence of God over production.
  • Experience with Allen & Heath SQ-7 (or any board!), DMX lighting systems, ProPresenter 7, and in-ear monitoring.
  • Understanding of the Nashville Number System.
  • Experience in a church production environment with a full band and volunteer teams.
  • Training or degree in music, audio engineering, production, or related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
