Job Description

The Orchardville Church Worship Director will demonstrate a strong commitment to Jesus Christ while implementing a music & technical ministry that enhances the worship of God and the whole ministry of Orchardville Church.


The director is answerable and accountable to the Senior Pastor on a day-to-day basis as a member of the worship ministry/technical team. As a member of the staff, the Orchardville Church Worship Director will also interface regularly and cooperatively with other staff members, Department Heads, Deacons, Finance Team, and the congregation.


ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENTS

  1. Doing ministry/preparing for ministry: Forty hours a week, off on Friday and Saturday, except for emergencies and special occasions.
  2. Participating in meetings/training: One hour minimum a week.


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Overall accountability for the Worship Teams of OC, including the following:
  2. Prepare arrangement of team members and team schedules
  3. Schedule and notify team members of all practices and services
  4. Make sure chord sheets are in order and ready for practices as needed
  5. Secure substitutes for team members who will be unable to sing/play, as needed
  6. Extensively learn Pro Presenter and keep updated and organized
  7. Fully utilize Planning Center for the team members to use as a hub for all information needed to participate in weekly services
  8. Create and maintain all of the music library in Planning Center including chord sheets, mp3’s transposed to correct key, vocal part recordings, etc
  9. Record harmony parts on all new songs and add to Planning Center
  10. Make sure that every detail is preset, programmed, loaded and ready for each service
  11. Continually research new song possibilities for worship services
  12. Provide music/technical team members with resources for skill enhancement
  13. Schedule and hold auditions for potential new members
  14. Troubleshoot technical problems that arise on occasion with audio, video and lighting equipment
  15. Work with vocalists in selecting the best key of new songs
  16. Prepare and facilitate any special music/songs requested by the senior pastor
  17. Continually update media slide backgrounds in Pro Presenter to keep a fresh look
  18. Edit and upload each Sunday service to the OC website and iTunes podcasts
  19. Keep sound booth, stage and other areas in your ministry clean and free of clutter
  20. Set up and tear down stage for OC Kids Sundays, Weddings, Funerals and special events including summer camps and Winter 24
  21. Set up and tear down portable sound system for different functions at the church and camps
  22. Assist Modified Youth music department with resources and development
  23. Personally rehearse music and prepare to lead rehearsals and services for Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights
  24. Work with the Senior Pastor to creatively plan Easter, Christmas and any other special services
  25. Coordinate and hook up any extra technology or extra headset microphones for any special events, services or dramas




  1. Overall accountability for the musical/technical equipment of OC, including the following:
  2. Maintain a current inventory of all instruments and technical equipment (including warranties and proof of purchases)
  3. Purchase all music, supplies, equipment, and supervise their maintenance along with turning in purchase receipts to church treasurer
  4. Oversee the proper care of music, instruments, and music equipment
  5. Assist in the development of the annual music budget

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to lead worship and to train others as individual and team worship leaders
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Skilled as a worship team leader and mentor
  • Experience with technical aspects of contemporary services (sound boards, lighting, video, etc.)

Leadership Skills

           • The Worship Director must exhibit strong leadership qualities. They must possess a high level of buy-in with the church's mission, vision, and strategy and must be highly organized. They must be able to effectively communicate their vision for worship, lead and guide their team in worship and prayer, and coordinate well with other church staff. They must also have the ability to inspire and engage the congregation in worship. The character traits most sought after in the successful candidate are spirituality, passion (for God, for worship, for the church), teachability (humbleness), initiative, and versatility.


Experience in Music Ministry:

• Prior experience in leading worship in a church setting is required. Any experience a candidate may have in the music industry, worship team coordination, organizing rehearsals, and leading worship services help demonstrate the candidate's ability to fulfill the position effectively.


Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

• The Worship Director should have a positive attitude and good interpersonal skills. They must demonstrate strong attention to detail and possess a "can-do" attitude. They must be a team player, leading people, such as musicians, vocalists, volunteers, technical teams, and the congregation. This will help to foster a collaborative and supportive worship environment.


Continuous Learning:

• A willingness to learn and grow is important for a Worship Director. They should be open to feedback, actively seek opportunities for personal and professional development, and stay updated with current trends and practices in worship leading.
