KIDS DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
The Kids Director provides vision, leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for a dynamic children’s ministry serving kids birth through 5th grade. In addition, partners with parents to support the spiritual growth of children. The Kids Director champions family discipleship, leadership development, and ministry systems that support continued growth and excellence across all children’s environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ministry Leadership & Vision
- Develop and implement the vision and strategy for children’s ministry aligned with the church’s mission
- Plan and oversee weekly kids services, curriculum, and special events
- Evaluate and improve ministry effectiveness regularly
- Build long-term strategy for growth, discipleship, and leadership pipelines
- Develop scalable systems to support increasing attendance and volunteers
- Evaluate ministry effectiveness using metrics and feedback
Volunteer Leadership & Development
- Build and sustain a healthy, encouraging and growing volunteer leadership culture
- Develop leadership pipelines (coaches, coordinators, directors)
- Ensure volunteers are trained, supported, and spiritually encouraged
- Oversee scheduling systems and retention strategies
- Provide ongoing coaching and encouragement for team members
Weekend & Program Excellence
- Oversee engaging, high-quality weekend experiences
- Ensure age-appropriate worship, teaching, and small groups
- Maintain creative, fun, and safe environments
- Oversee curriculum selection and development
Spiritual Development
- Teach or oversee Bible-based lessons that are age-appropriate and engaging
- Help children grow in their understanding of Scripture and relationship with Christ
- Encourage dedication, salvation, baptism, and other spiritual milestones
Safety & Systems
- Maintain strong child safety policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with background checks and safety training
- Oversee check-in systems and security protocols
- Maintain safe child check-in/out procedures and classroom ratios
- Manage ministry budget and supplies responsibly
Family Discipleship & Parent Partnership
- Equip parents as primary spiritual leaders in their homes
- Develop resources and communication strategies for families
- Create pathways for family engagement including life groups
- Be available to encourage and pray with families
Events & Outreach
- Lead major ministry events (VBS, camps, conferences, outreach events)
- Support church-wide initiatives and seasonal programs
- Create outreach opportunities for new families
Qualifications
- Growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Alignment with the church’s beliefs and values
- Experience in children’s ministry or related field preferred
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults
- Passion for discipling the next generation
- Delegate effectively while maintaining clear oversight
Education & Experience
- Degree in ministry, education, or related field (preferred but not required)
- Prior ministry leadership experience
Work Schedule
- Full Time
- Sunday-Thursday
- Typical workload: 40hours per week
- Hours can flex when key events are happening
- Hours based on ministry needs
