Worship & Discipleship Pastor

LakeView Church

Job Description

Summary

As our Worship & Discipleship Pastor, you will help a growing, Evangelical Free Church connect with God by leading us in worship together. And you will encourage us to become more like Jesus through overseeing discipleship groups.

You will also grow in your ministry experience as you lead worship, teach and preach, mentor, pray, and develop other leaders with a team of dedicated and experienced staff who love each other in and out of the office and are always willing to lend a hand or give an ear. Together, we are part of God's mission to bring hope and love through the gospel of Jesus Christ to Dane County, Wisconsin!

What you'll do

As our primary worship leader, you will work with the worship team to plan and lead worship services that promote active congregational participation.

As the pastor who oversees discipleship, you will lead the congregation to grow in our engagement with and understanding of the nature and process of spiritual formation, especially the value and role of true friendship in the context of discipleship groups.

As a member of the pastoral team, you will help shape the future direction of the church, pray for those in need, develop and shepherd leaders, and be a lead follower of Jesus as an example to others.

What you bring

A love and passion for worshiping and serving the Lord Jesus Christ and helping others grow closer to him.

A commitment to the local church as God's household and family.

A sense of calling to vocational ministry, with a lifestyle appropriate for leaders in the church (see 1 Tim 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9).

Talent and skills appropriate for this role, including vocal and instrumental abilities, skill in leading worship, pastoring, and leadership.

Experience in worship ministry and small groups (paid staff experience not required).

A seminary degree is preferred but not required.

A high commitment to team ministry, relationships, and having fun along the way.

Knowledge of (or the ability to learn) church multimedia systems and other ministry-related technology.

About LakeView Church

Stoughton is a small but growing town of about 15,000 located just outside the Wisconsin state capital of Madison. As one of the safest communities in the state, Stoughton is a charming town to raise a family. There's a state park, four large and beautiful lakes, bike trails, trout streams, and Madison, with a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, and other activities–all only minutes away. In addition, there are great schools in the area, with public and private options.

LakeView Church is a growing family with an average Sunday attendance of 325 in Stoughton, WI. Our congregation is a delightful mix of young families, middle-aged, and older adults. We have a thriving kids ministry, a growing youth ministry, and a bursting-at-the-seams Sunday morning worship ministry. We also have Bible studies and Gospel Communities (medium-sized groups of about 20-30 that meet monthly for a potluck and prayer).

We believe the church is not just a commercialized spiritual service provider or the spiritual equivalent of a “gym for your soul.” A local church is a spiritual home, the household of God, with Christ as the head of the family. Christians are not customers, clients, or consumers but brothers and sisters in Christ—family members. At LakeView, we’re working to reclaim the family dynamic of belonging to a church, and move away from the corporate model of commercial Christianity.

When it comes to discipleship, we don’t see it as just another self-help program with a Christian twist. Rather, being a disciple is about being with Jesus. And a funny thing happens along the way: the more I’m with Jesus, the more I’m like Jesus. Following Jesus is a lifelong journey with the Lord. It’s not as much about the destination as it is about the road trip.

And that’s why one of our mottos is “the most important step you can take is the next one.” Stop worrying about God’s plan for your life, and start asking God about his plan for your day. If you’re with Jesus each day, you’ll be right where he wants you to be in 20 years. Making disciples isn’t about producing “mature Christians” but rather teaching people to be with Jesus and follow his lead each day. Another little slogan we say a lot is that "we’re following Jesus together for the glory of God and the common good."
