Job Description

Monument Point Fellowship (MPF) is seeking a Pastor of Preaching and Equipping. MPF is a conservative Southern Baptist church that was established in 1986, and after nearly 40 years of faithful ministry, our founding Senior Pastor is prayerfully looking toward retirement. We are seeking a man who can come alongside him during this season of transition, assume significant preaching and leadership responsibilities, and intentionally prepare to become the church’s next Senior Pastor.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Preaching and Teaching

The Pastor of Preaching and Equipping will assume a significant portion of the church’s preaching and teaching ministry. Responsibilities will include:

  • Preaching regularly during Sunday worship services.
  • Faithfully preaching and teaching the Bible through expositional preaching.
  • Helping develop and communicate a biblical vision for the church.
  • Teaching and equipping believers to understand and apply God’s Word.
  • Participating in Bible studies, discipleship opportunities, and other teaching ministries.
  • Working with the Senior Pastor and Elders to develop a consistent and biblically grounded teaching ministry.

2. Equipping the Church

A primary emphasis of this position will be equipping the saints for ministry. The Pastor of Preaching and Equipping will seek to develop a culture in which believers are growing in spiritual maturity and are equipped to serve Christ and one another. This may include:

  • Developing discipleship and leadership-development opportunities.
  • Equipping members to discover and use their spiritual gifts.
  • Helping train teachers, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
  • Encouraging biblical literacy throughout the congregation.
  • Helping establish pathways for spiritual growth and discipleship.
  • Helping members to fulfill our mission to reach the world through an effective outreach ministry. We have a particular desire to reach and disciple young families while continuing to value and minister to every generation within our church family.

3. Leadership and Vision

The candidate will work closely with the Senior Pastor and Elders in providing spiritual leadership for the congregation. He will:

  • Lead MPF in fulfilling our mission to Love God, Serve Others, and Reach the World.
  • Participate in Elder and pastoral leadership meetings.
  • Help the Elders think strategically about the future of the church.
  • Assist in developing and communicating a clear biblical vision for Monument Point Fellowship.
  • Help evaluate and strengthen existing ministries.
  • Provide leadership during this important pastoral transition.
  • Develop relationships throughout the congregation and become increasingly familiar with the church’s ministries, culture, strengths, and challenges.
  • Help the church remain faithful to its biblical convictions while thoughtfully preparing for the future.

While Monument Point Fellowship deeply values its history and the ministry of its founding pastor, we recognize that every church eventually enters a new season. Our desire is to find a pastor who can honor what God has done while helping lead the church into what God has next. The successful candidate will therefore possess both a respect for the church’s history and a willingness to prayerfully consider new opportunities for ministry.

Transitional Opportunity

This position will provide an intentional opportunity for the candidate and the church to get to know one another and discern God’s direction for the future.

The current Senior Pastor will remain actively involved during the transition and will work alongside the new pastor. The expectation is that the Pastor of Preaching and Equipping will gradually assume greater preaching, leadership, and ministry responsibilities. If the Lord confirms that this is the right man and the right fit for Monument Point Fellowship, the long-term hope is that he would ultimately succeed the current Senior Pastor as Senior Pastor.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should:

  • Meet the biblical qualifications for an elder/pastor as outlined in 1 Tim 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9.
  • Demonstrate a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Be committed to the authority, sufficiency, and inerrancy of Scripture.
  • Affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) and the theological convictions of the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A degree from an accredited seminary or theological institution is preferred.
  • Be ordained by a Southern Baptist church or be willing to pursue ordination.
  • Possess demonstrated ability as a biblical preacher and teacher.
  • Have some pastoral or ministry leadership experience.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be capable of leading both spiritually and administratively.
  • Have a servant’s heart and a willingness to work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor, Elders, staff, and congregation.
  • Be committed to the local church and to the Great Commission.
  • Demonstrate a theological commitment consistent with the conservative convictions held by Monument Point Fellowship.
  • Most importantly, we are seeking a man who loves Christ, loves His Word, loves His church, and desires to see the Gospel faithfully proclaimed to the next generation.

Our Hope for the Future

We believe that God has been faithful to Monument Point Fellowship for nearly four decades, and we desire to approach this transition with the same faithfulness and dependence upon Him.

Our prayer is that God would provide a man who will faithfully proclaim His Word, shepherd His people, equip believers for ministry, work alongside our Elders, and help lead Monument Point Fellowship into the future. We believe this pastoral transition represents not simply the ending of one chapter, but an opportunity for the church to build upon its biblical foundation and faithfully pursue God’s purposes for the years ahead.

Interested candidates should submit:

  • A resume
  • A cover letter sharing your testimony, call to ministry, and philosophy of pastoral leadership.
  • Links to or recordings of recent sermons (if available)
  • References

We look forward to seeing how God may be calling you to serve alongside our church family in Jacksonville, Florida.

About the Monument Point Fellowship

Monument Point Fellowship is a “Church Proclaiming Jesus Christ!” whose mission is to Love God, Serve Others, and Reach the World. We are a conservative Southern Baptist church with an average attendance of about 130-150 on a typical Sunday morning. We are deeply committed to the authority, sufficiency, and trustworthiness of God’s Word and seek to faithfully proclaim and apply Scripture in every area of church life. We affirm the “Baptist Faith and Message” (2000) and value our partnership with like-minded churches through the Cooperative Program of the SBC.

Theologically, MPF is firmly committed to the sovereignty of God over all things, the historic doctrines of grace, and the centrality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our preaching ministry is centered on expositional preaching, seeking to faithfully explain the meaning of a biblical text in its context and apply the truth of God’s Word to the lives of our congregation. We desire for the Scriptures themselves to set the agenda for our preaching rather than allowing cultural trends or personal preferences to determine our message.

Both of our current full-time pastors are graduates of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
