Job Description

Worship / Young Adults Pastor

Colwood Church – 1840 Colwood Rd. Caro, Michigan

About Colwood Church

Colwood Church exists to see the extended communities of the Thumb of Michigan reached  by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Colwood is a church that began 140-years ago in 1886. Colwood is a church of around 330-350 in attendance and has thrived through the changing makeup of church culture and continues to exist as a church targeted at multiplying, disciple-making churches committed to developing leaders, planting churches, and mobilizing everyday missionaries.

Our strategy is simple and clear - Loving people towards a Christ first life.

We are seeking a Worship Pastor who will lead our church to encounter God in transformative worship and help cultivate a culture of spiritual depth, excellence, and multiplication.

The Role

The Worship / Young Adult Pastor is a full-time position that will provide spiritual, creative, and organizational leadership for all aspects of worship at Colwood Church, as well as, ministering to the Young Adults (18-26 years old) of the Colwood Community. This role is responsible for shaping and taking the lead of engaging Christ-centered worship gatherings while developing teams and leaders who embody our disciple-making culture and ministering to a cross-section of our church community.

This is a pastoral leadership position within the Gather strategy of our church. This role would also like to see an openness to teach on Sunday mornings, though not a requirement.

We are looking for someone that can both lead vocally and instrumentally though our worship on Sunday mornings will often include a team of musicians. The worship role will be about 80-85% of the position and 15-20% targeted at Young Adult ministries. Compensation will be determined by Education and Experience.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Lead Transformative Worship (Gather)

  • Plan and lead weekly worship gatherings
  • Work closely with the Lead Pastor in sermon series planning and thematic alignment
  • Curate music and liturgical elements that are biblically rich, theologically grounded, and Spirit-led
  • Create environments that invite participation, not performance
  • Champion prayer and spiritual hunger within gatherings

2. Build and Develop Teams

  • Recruit, train, and shepherd worship team members
  • Develop vocalists, musicians, and worship leaders
  • Collaborate with Tech/Arts and Communications to create cohesive gatherings
  • Create sustainable volunteer systems (scheduling, training, onboarding)
  • Raise up future worship leaders through intentional development

3. Pastor and Disciple

  • Provide spiritual care and shepherding to worship team members
  • Participate in the broader discipleship culture of the church
  • Invest in the Leadership Pipeline (4-Chairs: LOST - FOLLOWER - LEARNER - DISCIPLE-MAKER)
  • Model spiritual maturity, humility, and emotional health

4. Lead with Excellence and Stewardship

  • Oversee worship-related budgeting
  • Ensure musical and production excellence appropriate to Colwood’s culture
  • Collaborate with Operations and Tech leadership
  • Maintain a healthy rehearsal rhythm and Sunday readiness

Our Worship Culture & Musical Style

At Colwood Church, worship is more than music, it is a formative encounter with the presence of God that shapes us as disciples and sends us on mission.  Musically, we are influenced by several and various sources. Our gatherings reflect:

  • Modern, Spirit-led worship expression
  • Strong, confident vocal leadership
  • Full-band arrangements with dynamic build and flow
  • Space for prayer, response, and ministry moments
  • A balance of excellence and authenticity
  • Congregational participation over performance
  • Worship Leadership over Song Leadership

We value extended moments that allow people to linger in God’s presence, while also maintaining intentional structure and theological clarity.

Our Worship Pastor must be comfortable leading both powerful, high-energy praise and intimate, prayer-centered response moments, and/or, be able to orchestrate and delegate to others. On a normal Sunday morning during our worship gathering it will be very normal to see our Colwood Kids at the stage, generally ages 2-5th grade, as well as, our Students. We want to encourage worship at every level and we want to see our children and Students express and experience worship together.

Young Adults Ministries

At Colwood Church we have discovered a missing group from within our midst, young people between the ages of 18-26. A ministry targeting our young adults began about 5-years ago with the intention of retaining our post-graduate culture. Colwood Church is looking for someone to equip and disciple our young adults as they venture forward, bridging the gap between life as a student and life as a young adult. We currently have a ministry that targets this group, as well as, a ministry that targets young adult males that meet weekly to connect and grow biblically.

  • Provide spiritual care and shepherding to our young adults
  • Participate in the broader discipleship culture of the church
  • Invest in the Leadership Pipeline (4-Chairs: LOST - FOLLOWER - LEARNER - DISCIPLE-MAKER)
  • Model spiritual maturity, humility, and emotional health

STAFF CULTURAL VALUES & PRACTICES

These seven values define who we are and how we work together:

  • Gratitude & Humility — We lead from a posture of dependence, not self-sufficiency.
  • Prioritize Health — We take seriously the connection between our spiritual, emotional, and relational health and our ministry effectiveness.
  • We pursue growth, not just productivity, and we create space for one another to do the same. On this team, that shows up in the commitments we make to one another and the integrity with which we keep them.
  • Develop and Send Ideology — We're not just doing ministry; we're developing the next person who will invest in others, look for leadership potential around us, and measure success by multiplication, not just output.
  • Protect Clear Vision — We understand Colwood's mission and let it shape our decisions.
  • Fight for Unity — We lean into hard conversations rather than around them.
  • Open to the Spirit — We hold our plans loosely and stay committed to faithful discernment over protecting our own agendas. We expect God to move in unexpected ways and remain genuinely teachable.
