Position Summary


This position is responsible for the visionary leadership of the Youth and Student Ministry.  The Pastor of Student and Young Adult Ministries will provide visionary oversight and leadership to the needs of student’s grades 6th through 12th including collegiate age young adults.  He is to develop a comprehensive discipleship program of education and activities in an atmosphere of spiritual growth by planning, conducting, and evaluating the on-going student ministry.  His strategy will be in relation with the mission, vision, and strategy of the church in congruence with the Lead Pastor.  He is also responsible for activities, policies, and procedures that relate to this area of ministry.  He will partner with the parents of the students and youth leaders is discipling youth, consistently engaging students with the gospel teachings as well as supporting them in developing their love for Him and others.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Be a Christian
  • Be an example of Christian honesty and integrity; represent our Lord and His Church in a worthy manner
  • Displaying a Christ-like approach and lifestyle, and praying regularly for the youth in the church and community
  • Pray and support the Lead Pastor and other staff members as well as meeting with the Pastor weekly
  • Participate and contribute to staff and church meetings
  • Be a regular and active member of Greenwood Baptist Church, Midland, Texas
  • Research, develop, implement, and grow all programming for students grades 6 through12 for spiritual growth, including all church activities throughout the week and periodic special events involving youth
  • Work with the Youth volunteers to plan a program for leading the youth into the knowledge of Jesus Christ and to develop them in Christian discipleship through a Bible-Centered ministry
  • Implement curriculum for each youth
  • Incorporating youth into various church ministries for His use
  • Support parents and guardians of the youth to be disciple makers in their home
  • Create environments and activities for each age group within the youth department that will facilitate learning and spiritual growth for the student
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and lead teams for all youth activities
  • Research and implement volunteer opportunities for the youth
  • Provide care for youth and families within the church including times of grief, crisis, counseling, and follow-up
  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new youth and their families
  • Plan and oversee events such as camps, retreats, and other off-campus and special activities
  • Ensure communication with parents of youth is open and current, including parent meetings so as to keep clear the lines of communication concerning activities as well as expenditures involving extra-curricular programs and events
  • Make routine visits to the individual campuses where students attend so as to be a part of their lives in activities that they are involved 
  • Ensure implementation of church policies and procedures for the youth ministry
  • Collaborate and help develop the budgetary needs for upcoming years
  • Partner with GISD in meeting needs of families in the Greenwood area

 

Other Expectations

 

  • Work collaboratively with the GBC staff to build and maintain a strong team
  • Approach to accomplish the tasks of serving and supporting all ministries of GBC
  • Relational and a desire to volunteer in the community
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor and Personnel Committee 
  • Participate in seminars and other continuing education opportunities for personal growth and new ministry ideas
  • Residence must be within acceptable limits from the church, as approved by the Personnel Committee, so that the ability to network with students at their school events is not taxing to time commitments

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

·       Evident relationship and belief in God and His church

·       Uphold 1 Tim 3 1-7 

·       Ability to deal with and relate to young people by earning their respect and trust while modeling strong and relational Christian leadership to the youth of the church

·       The ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with youth

·       Develop student and adult youth leaders

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied

·       Sufficient computer and creativity skills in designing new and entertaining ways for students to learn about life in Christ and faith values

·       Excellent organization and supervision skills

·       Strong management and leadership skills in educating and preaching religious messages

·       Availability to work extended hours and during weekends as scheduled and on short notice

·       Proficiency in evangelical studies and youth ministry

·       Preferred a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Youth Ministry

·       BAS of Biblical Studies (not required, but preferred)
