Job Description

The Kitchen Supervisor works at the Burnsville campus and has oversite of all kitchens. Through the catering kitchen, meals are provided for Wednesday family meals, staff lunches or church events, as requested, including funeral luncheons. This is a part time non-exempt (hourly) position working an average of 12 hours per week and reporting to the Events Manager.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties:

Maintain kitchen standards and follow safe food guidelines.

Maintain standard operating practices and food and beverage preparation guidelines for good food safety practices:

· Obtain and/or renew MN Department of Health Food Safety certification

· Knowledge of safe practice updates

· Update safety policies as needed

· Clean at end of shift

· Monthly deep clean

Maintenance schedule for all kitchen equipment

Oversee the use of the kitchen for scheduled events, staff lunches, banquets and meetings

· coordinate selection of caterers/vendors for events

· arrange for access to the Catering Kitchen

· oversee the caterer or vendor while they use the kitchen and equipment

Schedule volunteers in Planning Center to adequate staff levels for all services and events; help find subs when necessary.

Provide management and oversite of all volunteer teams including:

· Giving regular affirmation and praise

· Ensuring they are appropriately placed and serving in an area of strength

Keep the Café in good working order

· Maintain the working order of the equipment

· Maintain accurate inventory of all equipment

Maintain kitchen supplies - stocking and refilling of supplies and maintaining the supplies used in the volunteer rooms

Plan for Wednesday night meals:

· create meal plans

· request food supplies based on planned menu

· schedule volunteers for meal preparation, service and clean up

· lead cooking of meal with volunteers

· arrange for Café register attendant and submit receipts to finance

Assist with recruitment of volunteers and take the lead on training them on standard operating procedure, equipment and food safety guidelines.

Coordinate with Facilities Supervisor to order cleaning supplies needed for the kitchen.

Purchase food and beverage supplies, maintain inventory of items in pantry, refrigerator and freezer and kitchen storage.

Other duties:

Assist with decoration of tables for meal service, as requested

Assist with funerals as needed

Cross-train and be able to fill in for the Café Supervisor

Order or contract with Caterer; receive food and equipment for all functions in Burnsville

· Maintain accurate inventory of all equipment

· Maintain appropriate licenses and operational standards

· Experience managing foodservice, coffee shop, and/or special events function that included food preparation and service.

· Must have a Food Safety Manager certification (we will provide support for the certification and re-certification).


Work Conditions

Must be able to spend hours at a time on feet – standing and moving around building

Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds – boxes of food items, coffee, and paper goods

This role will require flexibility to work evening and weekend hours; hours will flex seasonally

Must be comfortable with using a computer

Have an understanding of how to manage inventory, supply and demand

Required serving participation at two of four faith family celebrations and at least half of Easter and Christmas services unless otherwise approved.
